He should have fought it. Just tell the law says they have to prove the mods caused or contributed to the trouble he is reporting before they can deny a warranty claim. Ford wont treat him any differently if he mods the mustang, so he needs to learn how to protect his rights.

Dealers do what they want. I don't give them an excuse to void my warranty.

Or maybe he looked under the car and under the hood and saw all the mods. Also they don't have to send to GM to check it they can tell right when they plug it in if it has a tune. Plus this guy has a job with a standard operating procedure, if it was me and my boss said you plug in every car, you're damn right I'm plugging every car in. My job is not worth risking so you can mod your ride.

Everyone acts like this is surprising, when companies foreign and domestic have been looking for reasons to void warranties for years! Subaru gave SCCA memberships with Subaru WRX's then voided peoples warranties when they caught them autocrossing. Mitsubishi went to track days, got the entry lists and voided warrantys on Evolutions for racing.

Is it "the right thing to do"? I believe we can all agree no, but its their money and their warranty, so thats what they do.
Yea it may have voided the warranty on everything directly linked with the ECM (pretty much everything but seals and gaskets)but I bet if u contact a lawyer and see what he says im sure he will agree. Gm tried this with me on a d max with efi live on it dealership told me warranty was voided and I went straight to my lawyer, guess who's work got done under warranty since they couldn't prove the tune was the culprit, this guy! So I don't care what ppl say, gm may try to dick u because thru know most ppl arent going to fight them but if you can fight it and it b proved that the tune didn't cause it gm will fix it.

Chevrolet does not give a 100,000 mile warranty without covering all bases. Torque management is the tip of the iceberg. Warranty denial is part of the plan. Don't be surprised when your modified car is taken in.

I'd b willing to pay a ton of legal fees to make my dealership fix it under warranty. It is their responsibility so I would make sure that they knew I'm smarter then those of us who r like oh wow well shucks "gotta pay to play". Would u fight If you replaced your clutch and 9 weeks later your syncros went out? I mean it's s aftermarket clutch, I guess it may also wear out the bearings in your carrier also huh?! Gm may try to scare you but they know at the end of the day they know they have to prove it cause in the courtroom they're goin to b ruled against.

So you would pay $4,000.00 or more in legal fees and months of personal time and energy to force G.M. to replace a $200.00 gasket?

If someone violates the law in dealing with you - sue them.

Also Russell is quoting about aftermarket parts, NOT aftermarket modifications. If you use off brand spark plugs that's one thing, if you tune your car and change the core properties of the car it is completely different. M/M act will not protect you like he states it will.

My warranties never last very long and if something needs done I usually never take them in for vouchers. I know it sound strange but that's how I have always been. I don't understand why he traded the car in though, as it was mentioned earlier, he decided he wanted a Mustang before hand.

Think of messing with the ECM as overclocking your CPU on your computer. When you make changes to it, your on your own ...

And this is exactly what has ruined it for the owners on vehicles that need warranty work. Most dealers don't give a second thought anymore because of ppl hiding behind their mistakes. It's not only you though. Many people have done this in the past with to the Big 3.

What didn't they want to fix under warranty since you EFI lived your truck?
