Very serious. They're not kidding around with this car, and I of course am referring to the 2006 Z06. No carbon, or Z07 packages, etc...
The one I have experience with is Bonnies uncles. It's newer. CRAZY fast. Even my pass against Chris felt NOTHING like that. I'm guessing her uncles Z06 would run mid to low 11s on the street.

The ZL1 will never come close to a Z06 with the vettes better weight distribution and weight overall. It'll even have a tough time with my "slow" GS. It'll sur ebe one hell of a car though. It'll be a beast if it ever hooks up. The right set of drag radials and you have a straight line monster.

there are some delusional posts here guys.

I'm glad there are still many in the camaro community that can respond with reality checks for this thread.

ZL1 is going to be cool

Will not be running with a ZR1 or Z06. It will be a good race heads up withe a stock vette and stock GT500.

That's the reality.

I've driving a z06, and damn..makes me wish I would have went that route instead of the GT500, that's how bad ass they really are!

While I can certainly appreciate the enthusiasm... and while I don't care if the big brother 'Vette is faster, CAMARO ZL1 has had my heart from the beginning. Additionally, I think ZL1 has a good chance at being very close in performance to a base Z06, but couldn't touch a Z07-car. I will continue to support the idea of getting the Cup Sport tires from ZR1 on ZL1, but even with those, it would still be behind Z06.

ZL1 has a Kungfu grip on my heart and though there are better cars out there, it doesn't matter. It has character, charisma, doesn't pretend to be something it's not, and will not only talk-the-talk, but it will also be able to walk-the-walk.

Well you'll get it probably about 20k less than a Z06 too.

It's not even supposed to do battle with a Z06 so you're perfectly sane my freind.

All said and done, I will have paid much more than you for timeslips in the 11s. Can't wait til you get one. You've been all OVER it from the start.

Hmm with very little updated info on the forums concerning the ZL1 its
time for these kinds of posts to keep us entertained.

For me personally I could care less if the ZL1 is faster then the Z06, If I
wanted that vet it would be in my drive way by now.

Was waiting for the Z28 but thats not happening soon enough for me so
the ZL1 is going to be my next car.

Reasons for not buying the Z06 mainly due to its cramped feeling that
my wife and I would experiance from driving it. Plus we love the styling
on the gen 5 camaro's and the back seats we can use to store purchases
if we need to.

Lastly how many years have they already been producing the Z06 vettes
now, in comparison the ZL1's are going to be much scarcer overall as far
as how will exisit. I kinda like buying a car that fits into that niche, kinda
like my 87' Grand National Buick Regal Turbo.

I figure anyone who wants this car to reach the mid 11's on the track
can achieve thier goals with a few mods here and there.

But to compare camaro's to vettes is kinda senceless. I respect the vettes and owners who drive them, its just not a car meant for me.

Ok done rambling .

Perfectly fair.

And to be perfectly honest, I like the Camaro looks better than the Vette. Bonnies C6 is only a base model but sitting next to my Camaro even my son volunteered that the Camaro just looks meaner and more cut up.

Of course mines moded pretty heavily as far as stance goes, but it's all in what you like. With street racing out of the question, how many people will really make that difference manifest?

The ZL1 is gonna be bad ass. I actualy cant' wait to race one.

The Camaro is definitely bigger though.

I would like to be clear that I'm not talking absolute record times. With only two acceptions that I can think of (and considering the magazines I frequently read and/or subscribe to), I don't expect ZL1 to really come close in terms of absolute fastest times. I've only really been considering average street driver times (I consider myself one of these), not people like Evan Smith, and even a few members here (gmrulz and nhrastocker). I seriously don't think ZL1 will drip far into the mid-11s, stock, with this level of driver.

True, however, although my enthusiasm is at least the intensity of a few here, I have to be honest with myself. Wanting and being able to do what I want are two different things, and if I can't, you can believe I'll be building something pretty similar to a car like yours. In addition, people like you and almost everyone here at least has been tinkering on your cars; I don't even have one yet! You guys have blazed a path for those like me to follow, so I certainly wouldn't sell your efforts or the money you've spent short. You pioneers have showed what is and is not working on the 5th Gen and have made it easier for people the likes of me.

I've been all over this like stink on sh1t

There was a time when I possibly could've gotten a used C5, too, but one of your last comments rang so true to me. Maybe if I were older, and didn't have a couple young kids, I'd think I could enjoy a two-seater, but that's not going to happen for a long time. That being said, why get something I can't enjoy anytime I want? If I had that C5, I couldn't take the family anywhere. It wouldn't be easy in a 5th Gen, however, at least I have four seats to work with. It's more of a practicality thing in this respect, but I don't use that as a reason why I don't want one. It is just not a car for me - end of story.

I will say that the first time I saw a C6, I liked it WAY more than the C5. It was truer to the past, IMO, looks-wise. I think CAMARO is very similar, but even more. Not to mention I just think CAMARO looks a whole lot better, too. I think the wide body models look great, too.

If that Corvette had the same color as the Camaro it would look awesome. If the Camaro had the wheels on the Corvette it would look awesome. The wheels on that Camaro are too large for the car.

Here is a fair comparison of what the ZL1 should easily achieve with a few tweaks. This gentleman is currently sitting at #14 on the 1/4 mi official fast list. Not shabby!
