I've just read a few posts in here, but to the OP I was at the drag races and took down a Cobalt SS. Not sure what he had for upgrades, but it was pretty much a drivers race. His ET was better than mine a few times however I out drove him every time.

If his ET was better than you, you lost.

So..you lost to a Cobalt SS

I've never seen a thread where people boast and make points about how impractical their car is. KindA bizarre

You mean you treed him? Most people aren't going for reaction time at the track unless it's bracket racing. If his ET was better, he is running a faster 1/4 mile. . .

An ss/supercharged would be a good race vs a stock v6 camaro, but the ss/turbo(08+) is quite a bit quicker.

not much.
And the question can be put to a modded SS or Mustang V8 too. That is neither here nor there. Anyway, it's nice to see any 5th Gen take out a SRT8 Challenger at the track. Who cares what engine did it????

and what's up with so many guys here that add boost to their V8..but rag on a V6 guy who does the same? Geeesh.

OP: Cobalt SS are quick cars. But it's still a Cobalt.

Also, why does everyone always want to compare the top-end V6 to the cheapes SS? I saw a brand new LS at the dealer for 21,999. Cheapest 1SS I saw was 31,500. There's almost 10K there to play with. With much less than that we are seeing V6s running in the mid 13s which is what a lot of SS guys are running. That is an accomplishment, whether you think it was INTENDED or not.

The OPs point was to compare the V6 to the SS Cobalt T/C. He didn't limit to just LT. Other posters, including me, pointed out that you can mod the V6 to be competitive with the Cobalt for a reasonable amount of money. You can also make it a very fast car that will nearly rival the quickest Cobalts with just nitrous. Soon we may be seeing some turbo V6s that perform better than that. Let's stick to the topic at hand and not introduce things like practical (get a Honda) and canoes vs ski boats. Otherwise you will get flamed by the true Camaro lovers like me!
This isnt trying to take anything away from the driver of the v6 that just went 12.0 but only his ET is close to a couple of us with the LNF. He actually beats 99.9 percent there, but 75 percent have over 113 traps with the cobalts. There is about a dozen of us that have gone 115+ still on the stock turbo. So thats about 1500.00 in mods. A simple turbo swap and we can trap over 125.

My question is how do you think these V6 will compare to the cobalt ss Turbos?
From my understanding these camaros are pretty well built with an amazing v6 engine producing more Hp than some v8's. 0-60 times were rated at 6.1 secs but of course it depends on alot of things like weather. I say it can run 5.9 easily.

Do you think that these cars will be pretty close in a race? Aside from the 600lbs + difference in the camaro.

Iv always loved camaros and the look and the style of these new models are amazing. And these engines are even better. But i also enjoyed my lil sports car. I won quite a few races in it.

How do u guys compare the two as far as performance?
these times can be reached in any vehicle. My 7400LB truck beats that. I have a personal best of 5.4sec 0-60 on mud tires. Have not run the quarter yet but I'm sure it is no slouch.

Except we were doing a heads up race and reaction time did matter. Reaction time may not matter to a lot of people, but it matters to me, when I talk to people at the track and we race, it's who ever crosses the line first wins. I can have a Bugatti and spin the wheels for an eighth mile and probably still have a better ET than a Civic but what if the Civic beat me to the line? Most people aren't going to say oh well I bet the Bugatti's ET was better, NO they will probably snicker about how a Civic just crossed the line first. Having a faster car is half the battle, being able to drive it is the other half.

However, with that being said if you want to compare what car is faster than yes ET is better, now like I said the Cobalt beat me a few times and I beat him a few times (talking about ET here). SO a moded V6 Camaro can keep up with and in some cases take a Cobalt, stock for stock the Cobalt SS is going to be faster.

14.1 @ 100 was best I could get that night, it was really cold and I was getting 0 traction which was killing my 60', I belive it was around 2.2 or even 2.3 and usually I'm just at 2.0 or 2.1

As for the Cobalt he got 13.9, 14.2 (twice), some other time in the 14's and 15.1 which I assume something happened and he let off of it.

I have no idea what model year it was, it didn't look super new. Also I have no idea for mods.

It was probably the supercharged model. That's pretty much exactly what they run.

Sounds like a stock turbo or maybe a stage one supercharged car. Definitly not any mods on a turbo edition.

But again I must harp lol....Camaro V6 is still a fun car. We have a 13.7x timeslip here from someone with a 2LT with just an intake and exhaust. No thats not typical (weather was perfect that day apparantly) but its nothing to laugh at. But at the end of the day, stock for stock, a cobalt SS is quicker.
Thank - you, Just catching up to this thread. Yep 13.783 @ 103.40 Only an INJEN CAI and MRT 2.0 V Axle Back Weather was cold and the DA was -467.

It does sound like you are knocking the V6 when use the analogy of a canoe to a ski boat. Many do mod the V6 and we have one that just ran 12.015 in the 1/4 mile. We also have one with a turbo that beat the V8s on the road course. It is a good car for racing and already has quite a few accomplishments under it's belt.

And a Cobalt is just that a Cobalt .........I know you didn't say it was either.

Colbalt's have there purpose and the Camaro's have there's. I could have bough a Cobalt SS for my daily driver, but at the end of the day it was still just Cobalt And I wanted a CAMARO.
