Yeah this. If you can get past that hideous butt on the Mustang, go for it. Stock it'll give SS drivers who have mediocre driving skills a sad. Plus there's V6 FI Mustangs running in the 11's.

Hmmmm................I wonder how many EX-Mustang owners have purchased a Camaro because of the nightmare that 2011-2012 6-spd V6 and V8 owners have been going through? Here is a video of what many new Mustang owners are experiencing. Ford, to date, refuses to address the issue in the form of a recall. The NHTSA is in the process of investigating 26,000 complaints of the Chinese built MT82 Getrag manual transmission failure. I was actually considering a 2012 5.0 M6 until I started reading and seeing videos like the one below.
(But if you're considering an automatic, you'd be OK).

BTW, I have only owned my new Camaro since 11/22/11 and would NEVER go back to a Mustang! I love this car!!

Well okay then please disregard my above post. That is difficult to watch. If this is what FORD is ok with then that speaks horribly about FORD. Maybe you should figure out how to get the Camaro.

if your budget allows for a little more with the mustang incentives, maybe you can get the GT! that is what i would do. power > type of muscle car IMO

Must be Eskimo dollars . I don't think you'll see that price in the lower 48. I just bought a new 2011 2ss/rs in October and paid about 35 OTD, which I fair was a good deal.

I wouldn't let ONE video deter you from making your choice.

It is hit or miss with the 6Spd in the 5.0's.

Honestly, if you want to post issues about the 5.0's, at least do so with the intent on helping the OP. From what I have seen on this site, there are a NUMBER of issues with Camaro's. They are not perfect either.

Every first model year of a new Model car will have issues. I haven't seen one person with a 2012 5.0 complain about the various transmission issues the 2011 models had. I am sure there are some that have, but a lot fewer than the initial model year.

A quick backstory: I am graduating from University this December as an engineer, and I have a job lined up starting Jan 3. It's time to replace the 98 Ford Escort coupe. I've had my eyes set on a Camaro LS or if I feel I can manage, an LT RS.

However, Ford has some really great incentives this month. Mustang V6 Premium Coupe with $3500 cash rebate, $1000 Costco rebate, and $500 off for Cash for clunker's equivalent.

And thats the premium Mustang V6. The end price is around $26.5K CAD after taxes, where right now I'm looking at about $30K CAD for a base model (LS) Camaro after taxes. That's with the steelies (hate), no fog lights, and limited MP3 connectivity. I love the Camaro LS but I really wouldn't be satisfied with the steelies. I can't justify driving off the lot not 100% satisfied with my new car.

I haven't test driven the Mustang yet, but I feel if I do, I'll be so excited about it and it'll be really hard to justify coming back to the Camaro.

And that 3.7L Mustang is quite impressive, it (apparently) handles really well and you can't really argue with the 0-60 of 5.1 sec and the 1/4 mile in 13.7 sec. Those numbers are superior to the Camaro's.

Alright, bring on the bias. Help me out, I'm a Camaro owner and love em to death, but the price difference is a whole vehicle class difference right now.
drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.

OP, if you take the time to thread the 3 pages of this thread, it pretty much proves what I stated earlier....most will pull the "the Camaro is prettier" card. No one seems to wanna take on an argument that the Mustang V6 premium offers so much more in amenities and with better performance over the Camaro V6 and in your own words, you would be saving thousands on the Mustang V6. You will love Sync and the overall interior of the Mustang IMO is way better than the Camaro. Again, some think the Mustang is ugly and some think the Camaro is ugly. It is the most subjective thing anyone can say about a car. In your situation, $ for $, you are getting a whole lot more with the Mustang premium model.

The new Mustang V6 actually comes with dual exhaust just like the Camaro so for the person who says it is easily identifiable as a V6 from the back is talking outta ignorance. Besides, who cares if you or anyone can tell what your car really is?

I own both Mustang and Camaro....they are both ugly.

exactly! there are so many posts here on issues with the Camaro V6 and SS. People can be so ignorant sometimes.

But its a horse.... +1 on prefering the Camaro, has that mean look that the mustang doesn't nearly have.

If you check the "How much did your camaro cost" thread, you will see many people got SS's some of them 2SS's for 30, 31, and 32k.

Personally, I pm'd all of them to ask which dealer so I could try and get a similar deal.

Ever see the movie Hidalgo? That was a badass Horse, no?

Guess what, it was a "Mustang" not a "Camaro"

Woah, thanks guys. I just read through all of your posts since last night.

I'm happy to see the discussion has been civil and productive, this is the kind of help I was looking for. It's true I love the look of the Camaro, probably more than the Stang. But looks aren't everything, and I think the Mustang would really grow on me. The back end of the 2012's is really cool IMO. Dual exhaust too, and I love the sequential blinkers. I don't see how its substantially different than the 5.0, but then again I'm not out there to convince people I've got a V8.

They'll be convinced of that enough when I drive around in the 81 Z28.. my summer car

It's definitely a drawback that the body style has been out since 2005. None can dispute the Camaro is much hotter right now. This doesn't have that much weight on my decision, since I think the 2010+ Mustang looks quite a bit different and much nicer. But still, everyone likes turning a few heads now and then.

I'm really hoping that GM Canada releases some good December incentives. Ford's just came out yesterday, so perhaps they'll see it and step up to the plate. As of now I have to agree with FFRCobra and others: a premium well equiped and better performing car vs a base model is a major factor in making my decision.

It might all come down to that test drive.
