However, the Camaro is already listed at least 1 MPG higher and it is a smaller car. I can see some people getting very high 20s with a simple tune.
Yeah but that 150lb increase is only about a 3.8% increase in weight. At 75mph that small of an increase probably won't be your biggest contributing factor to gas mileage. Your CoD will play a higher role in that. And I would think that with its thinner tires and slightly more pointed front end, the G8 has a lower CoD than the Camaro.

Any improvement in CoD would likely be negated by the larger cross section of the G8 vs the Camaro.

The cross section factors in to the CoD. Even if the cross section is larger, if the overall CoD is lower then it takes less power to move it along at a certain speed.

?

I'll have to go back to my fluid dynamics textbooks (it was a few years ago) but its my understanding that drag co-efficient is based upon the shape of an object. If the CoD is to be calculated (vs experimentally determined), the ratios between length, height, and width are important but not the actual dimensions. If the air flows smoothly around it the air flows smoothly. The physical dimensions contribute to the total drag force but not the co-efficient. Drag = CoD x Cross sectional area
