Do you think the Z28 will be developed? We've already hit many times on the fact that GM has to be very careful in developing the Zl1 so as not to step on any Vette toes. Is there room to insert another model between the SS and the Zl1?

I don't think it'll be much of a factor.
But you should order now. If you wait, by some people's accounts, after Dec. 21st you won't be doing anything after that anyway. (311 days from now)

I think that eventually we will see a Z28 with AWD, a V6 & twin intercooled turbos probably before 2020. With CAFE standards raising their ugly heads & the mandatory green economy being jammed down our throats, compromises will have to be dealt with. The Z28 will undoubtedly weigh a good deal less & be better balanced. Don't discount the power you can squeeze out of a smaller, heavily boosted engine. It would be a tougher challenge to adjust the mindset of Corvette V8 diehards when they finally go mid-engine... but that's quite a ways off. I do think that we'll see magnetic ride control offered on more GM vehicles... & their competitors before long.
I believe that the ZL1 moniker will be the benchmark on which all other Camaros will be judged. I doubt that toward the end of this decade we will be seeing fossil fuel hungry beasts like we are now. Enjoy these HP Wars while you can! |

Do I think it's worth it? I don't know. I'm biased because I don't want the imp to be faster than ZL1, therefore I think more resources either should be ready or already in place to make sure that's not going to happen, or last long. That means, IMO, that Z28 Program might be in the way. Now - I want Z28 return. But I ask again - would sales be enough to satisfy production for this generation? So many continue to make mass a point to bring up (for good reason I might add), but that's not going to change in ZETA II, so... I'm ALMOST of the opinion to get out of Z28-mode (which I think GM could be in - I have no proof to back that up - just a gutt feeling) and get back into boost in ZL1. HELL - I could be all wrong and there could already be improvements in place to set out there in the next couple years. To me: THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO HAVE THE BEST CAR CHEVY CAN OFFER AND IT HAS TO BE A BETTER PERFORMER THAN THE CAR FROM DEARBORN. That is all, lol...

I agree with you about what is important. I'll never bash Ford or Dodge. I respect all auto manufacturers for all breeds they bring to the automotive world, I just happen to be a guy who has had a life long love with the Camaro from the day I was old enough to appreciate cars and eveyday appreciate what GM brings to the table. "My Camaro" doesnt need to be the fastest, it just has to be "mine". To me it's a bond, not a race.

Radz you always have good analysis and gut intuition. With all the weight savings people want for a Z28, it almost seems impractical to attempt it with the current platform (I guess I succumb to that thought also). We almost already know what 580HP can do and that it can be tweaked up by the GM Gods in several ways if need be. The 500 lbs of weight savings many have discussed will most likely require the new chassis. And, as you say, the market for a "current weight Z28" may truly lack ROI. Like you, I'd likey opt for the new Camaro that has been to Green Hell and Back! And, I doubt they will bump it next year, but if they do, maybe they will offer current owners the "upgrade" package for a nominal fee! Wouldn't that be cool? Factory Upgrade (Pulley & Tune) for about $1888. Dreaming.
