I'd suppose that the 68 in stock form would get ground into the pavement by a stock SS Gen5. Love the look of both............but neither are fitted they way they would be out of the box, and though the comparo in performance is neat for modded cars, when-ever Joe Smoe buys one off the dealers lot and expects it to perform in the same fashion he'll be sadly disappointed.

If I could add my two-cents..... ;-)

The quarter mile times are not representative of what the cars would run on a prep'ed track. Note from the photos and video that the launch was just clean asphalt. No track prep at all, and it's slightly uphill for 1/2 the run. Prep the track, heat the tires a bit, and the numbers would change for both cars a bunch. Yes, the '68 car could run a much better 1/4-mile time with suspension mods, tires, shocks, etc., but that would kill the handling. The car is set up for road-course duty, so the 1/4-times will suffer.

Are there other early Camaros that are faster than this one? Yep. Are they on a stock subframe, leaf springs, and non-mini tubbed?

For me building the '68 is a journey to make the car more like the modern version. It's hard to make an older car have the refinement, fit, finish, power, ride, etc. that the new car has. It certainly is less expensive from a time and money standpoint to buy a new car, but it's the journey for me that make it fun.
