Most cops make a healthy salary and that is augmented by all the overtime most typically work. You can start out at say around 50k, but are really taking home 75k after you factor in the OT.

I say "before you assume" because 75% of the people on this forum DID assume when I originally posted my experience in a thread. I'd give you the link but I can't because it was deleted. Too many people started criticizing officers as a group or criticizing me based on my age, assuming I had something again police. Again, which is why I made the "before you assume" comment. To clarify I don't hate cops or something, that I just have a beef with one officer.

As for the "job and donut" comments, of course I meant nothing by them. I'm sure I was the "spoiled rich kid" or "preppy college douche" when he went back to the police station to tell fellow officers about the camaro he pulled over.

My argument then and what leads me to those statements now was the way the officer acted. I wish I had gotten it on video or something, the officer took his sweet time giving me 2 separate lectures on why I didn't deserve my camaro. The camaro I work and pay for. Now try and tell me that's his job?

And nothing at all against you. I don't blame you for calling me out. Just wanted everyone to know I'm not trying to contest a ticket I deserved. Just the treatment I received.
I was brought up pretty much listening to lectures, heard more than a few from my old man, I just know when I do and don't deserve them. And a complete stranger, cop or no cop, doesn't ever deserve to give me a lecture about how I should live my life and what I should drive.

No worries, I don't disagree with you at all. It was a stupid boneheaded mistake. I've got a freaking HUD right in front of me too, so it's not like I pass it off as nothing. I paid the price.

And the sh*tty part was that I got the treatment that the knucklehead who was blazing around on purpose should have gotten.

I've already had this discussion, so I won't have it again, but the general consensus became that the cop had no right to tell me whether I deserved my car or not. That's just my opinion.

Oh well, whats done is done. Nothing can change now so I won't bother arguing about it. If you want to discuss it further, feel free to PM me. I won't bite, lol

Nah, Massachusetts doesn't sound like somewhere I'd want to live actually.

Valid point. Stuff like that, drug dealers on the run, etc., has actually happened in my hometown in Morgan County GA. It was even on COPS once, lol!

Probably not a likely car is a 5th gen camaro with 2 white kids sitting in the front who pull over for you on purpose, knowing you were going to pull them over and they decided to make it easier, lol. (when I was driving by I saw him gunning me and then close his door and start his car... I was like "huh?". Looked at my speedo and . Pulled over right then and there, shut off my car, and waited for him, lol )

That side by side pull over for impeding sounds like me after a cross country trip. We left St. Petersburg, Florida, and my wife is doing 120mph across most of the US (except parts of Georgia and Louisiana). We switch at the Arizona/California border. I have 1 or 2 tickets so I'm cruising around 5 over, but we hit a stretch where the semi's would pass on the downhill, and then I'd get stuck behind them on the uphill. Long story short, lose my patience, accellerate so the semi won't pass on downhill... CHP in center median. $400 ticket for 15 over.

My favorite though was coming back from Northern California. There was a San Luis Obispo county Sheriff going south on the 5 towards SLO, and I'm pretty sure he was transporting a prisoner. Usually no one sits in the back seat, and the rear passenger's scowl was very apparent. This guy comes blazing up from behind, so I oblige and move over (out of fast lane). He gets right on the Sheriffs bumper and stays there for the whole time there's #2 traffic. When #2 clears, he gets over but then refuses to pass. As #2 traffic approaches, he lane changes (no blinker) and rides the cops butt till #2 clears. This goes on for at least 20 miles and I'm amazed at the Sheriff's restraint. Finally, the Sheriff gets out of the #1, bonehead passes him, Sheriff gets back into #1 and the light show begins. As the two pull off to the shoulder, I couldn't wonder how big of an idiot you'd have to be to NOT see that coming.

In California, keep in mind 20 over is now a "cop's discretion call." If you're a raging a$$, he can write you for reckless driving (suppsed to be automatic for 20 over), can tow your car, take you to jail, and make your life hell. If you're cool, he can cite it for 5,10 or 15 over and you live (possibly) to speed another day. Reckless is a 5 year ticket (not 3 like most) on your record, and an automatic DL suspension for a year. If you do get written up reckless, lawyer up fast. Don't play the, "I hope he doesn't show in court," game because you'll lose badly.

Hmmm, and I thought all this time that the revenue from motor vehicle fines went towards the crumbling roads and potholes here in Mass. LoL

Instant on radar is always detected by my detector because I'm never the only car on the road. It seems as though those radar guns are stronger because I get much more notice. The detector will pulse on the off then back on, and so on getting stronger each time. I agree with you on laser though.

Not a myth, but depending on the area you live in will affect how much it happens.....like NJ for instance its very well publicized and there are signs posted on most major roads either KEEP RIGHT PASS LEFT or SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT, KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS OR LEFT TURNS. They have finally started to post this on our roads here in DE, not that it seems to help much GRRRR but it is written into one of our statutes and YES I am starting to enforce it more and more the problem in our City is most people will say (truth or not) that they were going to a certain business that is on their left.....then there's nothing you can do. But I wish the Troopers would start enforcing it on the toll roads that we don't have jurisdiction over.

Post comments, among other things calling cops broke donut eaters, whine about your "treatment", then say that you're picking up your ball and going home and not going to reply again?

Real mature, dude.

If your attitude that day was anything like it is in this thread, I don't blame the cop for any attitude he MIGHT have given you.

Guess you missed everything I said. My attitude was quite the opposite that day. All I said to the officer the entire time he lectured me was "yes sir" "I understand" and "I'm sorry sir". He really couldn't have gotten a better person to deal with, and yet he still went after me like a bat outta hell. I would LOVE to see you or any other person take that kind of treatment from a law enforcement official. I guarantee you'd change your opinion had you heard every word he spoke to me.

Like it or not, I'm not going to be all Jolly Roger about it after the fact. No, I never would have back talked to an officer, and I never will, that's something I wouldn't do. But I retain my right to feel rotten about my experience. As any sensible person would.

People suggested I file a report on him at the police station, or talk to his supervisor. Did I do that? No. I felt like doing that might make him lose his job, and I don't want to do that either. So I'd rather sit here and have my rotten opinion of one police officer rather than complain about cops as a whole, or try to get that cop fired. Would you prefer I do something else???

I have no issue with maturity, so don't bring that into it. Many of the people I talked to said they would have exploded before they took that treatment. Is that your definition of mature?
I personally think it's more mature to treat an officer with courtesy and kindness. That's exactly what I did, and regardless of the fact that it had no affect on the officer, it doesn't change how "mature" I am.

This is EXACTLY why I acted like I "wanted to pack up my ball and go home", because I didn't want to get into this stupid discussion all over again. As if I need to prove myself or something. Which is why I posted: "Oh well, whats done is done. Nothing can change now so I won't bother arguing about it. If you want to discuss it further, feel free to PM me. I won't bite, lol"

So feel free to PM me. I have sour feelings on the matter and how it went down. Is that wrong of me?

I never argued my ticket and whether I deserved it. Just the treatment I got.

It's hard for me just getting in the old LT2 V6, I'm so glad I didn't get the SS or I would really be in trouble.

(BTW Love the Larry's Avatar! It's where I buy all my tires and rims!)

Here in Wilmington area we actually have an unmarked dark blue Camaro that does a lot of radar work so keep your eye out. The funny thing is a lot of times people mistake my car for the WPD one so you will see them slow down from time to time.

So will keeping your foot off the gas. I've had 2 tickets for 84 in a 55, luckily at the time they were only 160 bucks. That was around the time I was 19. I learned after the second one that it's better to just watch your speed and keep it under control. I haven't had a problem since (other than my front plate missing).

I've been pulled over a few times for being 5-6 over, but I am pretty sure those were stops to check on things. They were on roads that lots of high school students drove on. The cops were always cool and we ended up joking around quite a bit by the end of the stop.

IF you're going to speed, you do it in places where there's no possibility you'll get pulled over, if you don't have these kinds of places, you probably shouldn't be going more than 5 over. This also makes a radar detector kind of useless, but I tend to see that police will set up traps and such in areas where there are a lot of accidents and where people are endangered by speeding. It's not rocket science to figure this out. Driving 20-25 over because "everyone else is" won't get you very far when explaining to an officer (and yes, there might be some times when it's dangerous to go far below what traffic is, but most people just use this overall as an excuse to go fast, even if just a smidge faster than the other traffic). Coasting from 5+over when the speed limit drops significantly won't get you very far with an officer, you realize in these situations you are the EXACT type of person that they are targeting right? Rolling through stop-signs and lights won't get you very far with an officer, even if no one is around. Lots of people think they are special. With a little bit of common sense you can drive a high performance car, even HAVE FUN, and not get tickets or have problems. It's been about 10 years for me, and the ironic part is that I've never gotten ANY tickets with my high performance cars (or even radar detectors), just about 3 or so before when I had my first cars. I think a lot of people don't really think about the reality of where they live, the terrain, the population density, the enforcement, etc. These are the things that the police think about though.
