90503 is right.

Tactics can dictate lights and sirens. Even calls that an officer can "have the lights on" doesn't mean they want to. If I was driving to the area of an active shooter, I certainly do not want him to know where I am when I am arriving on scene.

We constantly have to defend our actions because there are many people who have no idea what law enforcement is about yet give their uneducated opinions anyway.

I guarantee the police officers in your area know the laws much better than you think they do. There is a difference between the letter and spirit of the law.

I posted this right before you. Look at the bold

I'm glad you didn't take that post negatively and what you say makes total sense.... So want to move to Gainesville to show cops here how it's done? LOL

I did see (about 2 weeks ago) a black dodge charger behind me one day and it was going fast! It swerved out of my lane and then went past me. Right behind it was a cop chasing. In the next 45 seconds about 12 to 15 cars were blaring sirens passing me chasing this car.

Possibly the coolest thing I've seen officers ever do! Huge respect

IOWA STATE PATROL SUCKS ! ! sorry just had to say that.

Have gotten pulled over many times there for retarded reasons… And they don't care if you are just passing through and it (whatever they are pulling you over for) is legal in the state you are registered… Plus the only highway patrol I have EVER seen that has a tint meter in their cars.

Yeah I agree it is a stupid law. I am really glad we don't have it in Tennessee. Here is what makes me mad though, there is a dealership (actually the one where I bought my Camaro) that puts a stupid dealer plate on the front of every Camaro that comes on their lot to be sold. They drill those stupid holes in perfectly good, beautiful bumpers just to put thrie dumb advertising on them. I get mad every time I drive by there. Poor Camaros! I told them so too! Then, while I am at it, there is another local dealership that regularly pulls their Camaros so far foward in the parking spaces that they scrape the underneath of brand new Camaros! What is with these dumb dealerships?

I think 29 states require a front plate. don't know original reason for it, but now it's just revenue mainly in cities that have red light cameras. In NY they also now have OCR readers so they can play big brother. More revenue if they can catch someone with outstanding violations. Mine is behind my passenger seat.

For example, you think the car and occupants are suspicious and use no front plate as a reason to stop them to find out who they are.

Also, you can't drive 10 minutes without breaking some law. They make it near impossible to follow the law. It's the state's biggest revenue source.
If cops do it all the time, why did AdamZ say he would never pull over someone for no front plate?

this thread just needs to be closed.....its the law...run without plate on the front if your state requires it and sooner or later plan on getting stopped and/or getting a ticket its just that simple ....there will be many officers that don't care about the violation but sooner or later one will....and that my friends is life.

After being pulled over for erratic driving and then failing 3 field sobriety tests, Harold Davidson, 61 was taken into custody for a DUI. At the county jail, however, new BAC tests showed his alcohol level to be below the legal limit. He was found not guilty of a DWI, but guilty of driving while impaired. Sentencing will be at a later date. Operating While Intoxicated is the charge usually authorized by the prosecuting official. This is an important distinction because the penalties, while still severe, are less than OWI and a skilled defense attorney will know best how to argue for a reduction.

DUI is not alcohol only. You can be DUI after ingesting narcotics, legal or not, over the counter medicines (Nyquil) etc. In Ca, out in the field you are only charged with Driving under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug 23152(a)CVC. Once back at the station, if you have greater than .08 BAC then the suspect is charged with an additional section, 23152(b)CVC (>.08 BAC).

I would pay the state extra to not have to front plate my ride. I have a thread with a link to petition to overturn this law in VA, but it's not getting enough attention. I think DMV should offer a special rear plate that indicates that the driver has paid an extra fee to not have to have one on the front.

People think just having one or two beers means they are in the clear. Not true. If the officer that pulls you over deems you impaired, you can be arrested and convicted under .08.

Interestingly enough, there's a politician in Ohio (who is against having a front plate) that claims that it would save the state money NOT to require it.

They have been trying to use the same argument in IL for a while now. The additional cost to produce 2 plates instead of one is the reason. I personally do not run a front plate, but I also acknowledge that I am taking my chances. In the 18 years I have been driving I have only been pulled over once for it and I think it was more a reason to question us than it was true concern for the plate law.

I also recently found out that there are special stickers LEOs place on their personal vehicle to signify that they are LEOs to others. I assume this is for reasons previously mentioned by AdamZ in this thread regarding weapons in the car.

No matter what, I respect what LEOs do for us day in and day out and if and when I get pulled over I will do my best to demonstrate that respect.
