How do you un-DRM and convert to MP3 without having to downgrade WMP?

I know I know that's not the most convenient thing, but sorry to say it's kinda the only option if you wanna use the Thumb drive.
Sorry there isn't anything easier, just the hazards of money-hungry companies who charge for their downloads. I've said it before, there is NO reason to pay for music. Use Limewire, that's user friendly and definitely not encrypted. Just make sure you download PeerGuardian so Big Brother has a little harder time watching your every move.
I bit the bullet and whacked my napster to go subscription and did their 1 year plan for $60 which gives you 70 free downloads then pay as you go. All MP3, no DRM....

I appreciate your help but this is the best option for me, I always get perfect quality downloads, and much more importantly having multiple friends in the industry I believe in paying for my music. Plus I really don't download that much music, this will be far cheaper overall than the Napster to go was anyway.

You mentioned that work is being done on fixes/updates to the USB stuff and I'm sorry if this has already been covered in another thread. I read a few of the USB threads a while back, but kind of stopped following the audio side of things until my car arrived.

My specific problem is that the USB unit forgets what mode it was in when I turn the car off. If I set it to a specific Album (folder), the next time I turn the car on it forgets and goes back to playing everything in alphabetical order. The directory structure on mine is basically Artist/Album. I rip my cd's from Media Player. Is this specific issue going to be addressed in the update you were talking about, or is there maybe even a current fix now? It hasn't been too much of a pain yet, but the next time I buy a new cd and rip it to my flash drive it'll get frustrating when I want to listen to it. My commute to work is only 3 - 5 minutes so it'll be hard to listen to it beginning to end.

And do you have any guess on a timeline for the firmware update? I'm not looking to hold you to a specific date, I'm just hoping for an estimate.

Thanks.

my usb drive and aux input would not work, so I took it to the dealer.

USB songs would play on the display, but no audio... just static.

aux input was just static.

They are ordering a new PDIM module... I will let you know what happens.

From the pictures you posted and knowing that all cars (not just PDIM-equipped models) have the AUX port, I don't see how it could be the PDIM module causing it. Have you checked out how the aux port and PDIM module actually connect to the main deck? It sounds like the problem is there.

You're right, the issue could be the radio itself as well. When the vehicle is equipped with a PDIM, the Aux input next to the USB port is routed through the PDIM. The PDIM uses this input for its USB/BT audio. When you don't have a PDIM, the aux jack is directly fed to the radio.

Interesting. Does the PDIM module basically just output to the same connection that the Aux uses on the non-PDIM cars?

Both the aux input and the USB wires go to the PDIM unit, the USB is connected with a "mini-USB" cable and the other connecter looks like it contains inputs and outupts in the same connector. The aux input goes into that connector.

I have checked the PDIM connection to the head unit. It's kind of confusing because wires from all over the place get rounted to a single connector that plugs into the headunit.

I messed around with the wires to see if i could make it work with no luck.

thanks for the input.

Occasionally my radio will get hung up displaying the correct song information for the files that are on my jump drive plugged into the USB port. It will still play the music on the drive, but it won't update the display with the new song info. Also, if it does this, and I press the "Menu" button on the right-hand radio knob, the display goes blank. And if I hit the back button, all it displays is the time and outside temperature, but it's blank where the song information usually is.

I've found that if I turn off the car, remove the jump drive, turn the car back on, and then re-insert the jump drive, it will reset and start functioning normally again.

I'm guessing this is just some kind of glitch in the PDIM module programming so I'm not too worried about it. because that's easily something that can be fixed with updated code. And who knows, maybe the new code will also make the PDIM remember if we had the music set on random or not...

Yes that's exactly how it's connected.

Yes there is going to be an update for the PDIM. It should resolve these USB issues, but unfortunately, it won't add the feature to remember random. That might be available in a future release, but we currently are using all available memory to store the USB song index.

Just curious, but how much memory do you think it would require to remember random? I figured it would just be a setting similar to how the car remembers whether or not I want the car to honk and flash the lights when I press the lock button on the key fob twice.

Also, when it comes to memory for the PDIM, is the memory hardwired into the module or do you think there would be a way for someone to "upgrade" the amount of memory it has while absolutely voiding all warranty on the module

Ok can any one help me with this one. i didnt see that any one else had this problem recently i updated my zune to get rid of all the music that i dont really listen to, Well when i brought the zune back into my car and plugged it in it scrambled up all the names of the songs and artists together for example i have "bullet for my valetine sevenfold". i have figure out how to listen to it but navigating the menu and searching takes forever. Anyone have any ideas? Also at the end of every song at around 10 seconds left in it the song stops the radio goes blank for about 2 to 3 seconds then kicks back or shuts the zune down (states device not found) and goes to XM. does that happened to anyone else? thnx
