I desperately want to see a "dyno shootout" with the filters tested here. I want this debate put to rest once and for all!

If I can get the dyno scheduled for the other two items I want to check I'll add a S&B to stock filter comparison.

So what exactly IS this "green" filter? Does it have a brand name and where is the best place to buy one?

I hate to bring this ancient thread back to life, but I swapped my oem filter out for the k&n drop in....and it made a difference. Maybe because the stock filter was filthy and the new one provided much better air flow. I'm glad to see some results, because I can somewhat feed my mod craving Thought I would share

Thanks for sharing!

Here's some more accurate info for those still paying attention...

While I don't have all of the filters any more to repeat this test through the head/intake/tb, I did compare the stock filter vs an S&B filter @ .500" lift on cyl#3 through the top end assy.

The S&B filter flowed roughly 1% better through the intake system/tb/intake/head @ .500" lift... (appx 3 CFM more)...

If we were to use the math that Vararam has on their flow test page here: http://vararam.com/camaro-vs-comp.html

+3 CFM * .2 = .6hp/cyl gain * 8 cyl = a 4.8 HP gain on a stock LS3...

IF their math is valid... It does make sense, and an airflow gain through the entire system can be seen just from a simple filter change... Even though it still hasn't been dyno proven that I know of (aside from he-said-she-said), this leads me to believe that a gain is definitely possible.

I have no reason to dispute Ted's claim, but if you note the spreadsheet picture from the first post, changing filters, or removing the filter all together DOES allow the stock box to flow more. It's not as big of a restriction as people think.

Back before I started playing with these filters on the flow bench I would have agreed, but everytime I put the S&B filter on the bench, it flows extremely well despite it's looks.
I had tested Stock air box with stock filter against K&N against No filter and as I recall, there was no more than 1 RWHP measurable difference.

Engines do not flow like Flow benches, there are both Pluses and sound waves involved that affect HP.

Great Job on the Testing

Ted.

With the exception of the filter swap in a stock air box, interestingly enough, from given HP numbers shown in your intake testing, and numbers I've come up with for my intake testing, the math works out to show the same HP gains as shown on a dyno, regardless of how an engine flows vs a flow bench. Probably just a coincidence...

Funny, but I think there must be something wrong with that one, or fram really stepped up their game haha... I've seen one here in a couple parts stores, and the paper filter usually only pushes the ball about half way up the tube...

K&N charges $99 for that promotional "air flow demonstrator", maybe they should make sure that it works before they send it out the door... Here's how it's "supposed" to work, and even with a hot chick operating it:
