I'd like to see some proof about "loud pipes save lives." I've ridden (Japanese) bikes for over 32 years on the street and every situation I've been in could have "somehow" been prevented by me. I look out for bikes when I'm a "cager," too. Still, sh!t happens, luckily not to me...so far.

I'm another weirdo on here, and if you were to check my posts, you could verify that, but I also think my stock exhaust on my puny LSX is just fine. Like Comrando said, what does an aftermarket cat-back get you, four HP? I'm more about the "go" than the "show," aside from the fact that I only have a V-6.

I prefer stock exhaust. I went after market twice, both on my V6 and after on my SS, and I really did not like it. Some people prefer a quieter cabin. I would much rather invest the money in a quality sound system. But different strokes for different folks.

CAI and flowmaster American thunder = great sound. Last time a 911 was on my bumper at the light ... I took off really slow, left it in 1st until he THOUGHT he was going to pass me. He heard a good dose of American thunder LS3 as I took off and left the flat 6 behind.

I hate my stock mufflers and I can't wait to get rid of them. I just wish retrofitting the NPP wasn't so expensive.

Why can't you get the NPP on the L99? Does it have the same drone as most aftermarket pipes when the AFM kicks in? Planning on the automatic but would like just a little more sound and dual mode seems ideal.

I like it just loud enough to set off car alarms of cars parked on the side of the street as I drive by

It's debatable and it would be hard to study how effective loud pipes really are at preventing accidents since there is nothing you can source other than opinion but I would say at best loud pipes are marginal for saving a rider.

I prefer a throaty, sleeper sound. The stock SS exhaust is just a bit tame though. I'm planning on LT headers, HF cats with the rest of the exhaust stock. I think this will give her just enough of a stealthy attitude

Regarding the bikers... It really irritates me how loud their rides are! What's the point really? "I'm a hard ass... You can tell by how loud my bike is!" ????

but don't forget..one must also have the Shaved head and goatee to go along with the pipes...what a bunch of tools.

You are definitely in the minority...welcome to the club. I have left my entire car stock so far because I like my car just the way it is. The bottom line is it's your car and do (or don't do) what you want. If you're happy with it then that is all that matters.

Remember that the minority of gen5 owners are here, a very small percentage of the total owners. The views and mods of the ppl on here is not what most people do or not do to their vehicle. Don't take what you see here's gospel. For me I did throw a stainless works retro catback and cai and scoop which added a little power, a little sound but not so much that it gives me a headache on this 45 year old. Would I have done this if I wasn't on here? Prob not as I've learned so much from everyone here.

there are two mitigating factors for me: 1. every car i've had till now has been a four cylinder, and, pretty much anything bigger sounds better. Plus, with all the newer technology, a lot of the sound is dampened, but in my humble opinion, it still sounds throaty enough.
2. and more importantly, I live in Florida. There are a buttload of harley davidson motorcycles, and, some, but not all, of those motorcyclist, think that they are big shots, like some of the people in the Lost and the Curios, ahem, fast and the furious people, who think that pumping the accelerator with the clutch pushed in, they think that they are hot stuff.

I pose this query not to be bashed. it is just a curiosity question, and I am eager to learn some of the arguments for and against.

Thank you for your time.

I have had some loud exhaust V8 cars in the past. My 2010 SS I put MBRP cat-back on it. It sounded good but sucked when going on long drives. Also it made the Bluetooth almost useless because you could not hear. The stock exhaust is too tame for me but most aftermarket is too loud for a daily driver. I believe Chevy makes the best exhaust for these cars with the NPP. I checked today with a phone noise level app and behind my car the exhaust is 90 - 100 db at idle. (My neighbors have told me it is plenty loud. ) At full throttle it sounds amazing BUT when cruising it quiets down allowing me to listen to the radio and talk on the phone. NPP is the best of both worlds. I would not own a new V8 Camaro without it.

I prefer the stock sound. I like hearing myself think going down the highway. Been in too many muscle cars that just drone on the road.

As far as loud bikes go, they're for the freaking birds. They must be making up for short comings in other areas.
