Because Bob Lutz says...
“We are going to be above Mustang,” Lutz said. “We have a very sophisticated suspension system and, frankly, a much nicer interior. We are not going to try and match the Mustang on price. We are going to be premium-priced compared to the Mustang.”

In my opinion, when you're talking about $25K+ vehicles, you don't use the words "premium-priced" if you're talking about a thousand dollars or less.
I think there's gonna be a lot of disappointed Camaro fans when the pricing hits the streets. It only makes sense that when you build what you consider to be a better, more powerful, and superior product, you're going to charge more for it.

Pulling something from left field just doesn't make sense. It would annoy enthusiasts and confuse the average buyer. It is assumed that there will be either a Z28 or an SS, or both. Having neither hasn't really entered the equation. Hope this helps

(On second though, being about to say that I have a Frank is oddly starting to grow on me )
I like kitten. It's like when a big guy is called Tiny.

Just checked back at the V8 pricing poll+thread. Looks like most of us were expecting the Camaro to be 2k more than the mustang GT anyway. sounds like a reasonable amount for a premium to me.

I consider a $2K bump to be "premium". With the Hyundai Genesis coming out, GM is going to be under extreme pricing pressure. Sure it isn't as good, but GM knows that there are plenty of people who put money before horsepower and handling, and if they want to hit the 100K sales volume mark, pricing will have to be pretty darn low.

I don't mind paying a couple grand more, but I hope it's not much more than that, because I too think that would be a mistake.

UGH!!! Just when I decide to sell my '02 so I have some money to start saving with... I want pricing already!!!

I guess if you consider over $4000 more a 'near-Mustang price' then you can expect it.
Mustang GT $26,775 http://www.edmunds.com/new/2009/ford...68/prices.html
Camaro SS $30,995 http://www.leftlanenews.com/chevrole...o-ss-2010.html
That's only 16% more.
