Yea....right!

You are supposed to reset the oil life monitor after an oil change. What the software does when the oil life monitor is reset after X miles we do not know, but it could be written to do anything that is software controlled.

As a matter of fact, it really is...seriously!

And my uncle engineered the LSX series engines.. Again, seriously.

Any metal fragments would be in the filter... 200 miles didn't even give the oil time to get warm yet. Sounds too early for me.

I noticed more part throttle power after the oil change I did myself at about 2600 Miles on my LS-3. Mobil 1 5w-30 and a Mobil 1 filter. The factory fill could be something with a higher viscosity or a break-in additive but who knows.

If the new oil is less viscous than what was in there before, the oil pump would not be working as hard anymore so you could find an improvement in power.

FWIW.

More power: was it the oil change, fuse pull, or the colder weather. It's a big conspiracy.

I'm with you there. I would not have typed it if I did not notice it myself. I don't know for sure but I am leaning toward the factory fill being different than what was in the owners manual. Break in additives or different viscosity could do it.

Maybe we can get a few new owners to "reset" the oil life system just BEFORE they change thier oil and do a quick road test to see if it is in the ECM or in the oil? Just a thought.

There is a minuscule, negligible difference between any allowable grade mandated by GM for the LS3 (GM 4718M). If you were to put in the thickest oil allowable that provides wear, flow and pressure, you would maybe notice a "negligible" difference on a dyno, definately NOT a seat of the pants feel.

Will a thicker oil rob HP? Absolutely! But the thicker "mythical" break in oil must also provide protection. Does Mobil1 make a thicker oil with an additive package to fill the 2010 Camaro? Have asked, no answers.

If you build a loose tolerance motor, you could go to a 20w50 and maybe lose 8-10 hp over a 10w30. Nothing you would feel.

Now if you removed 75w90 factory fill from the crankcase of a 2010 Camaro would I believe your claims.

BTW, Sharks post was sarcastic.

General Motors sells an engine oil suppliment you can buy in the parts department that is specified for new engines to prevent excessive wear during break-in. I have not seen anyone say that GM uses that (or anything else for that matter) in the new Camaro engines but nobody said they do not. I have a bottle of GM EOS in the garage and can get you a part number if you want to learn more about it. This is a GM produced, new engine oil additive.

I was hearing the sarcastic tone in his post.

Welcome kikolosh. Have you checked your oil life indicator? This indicator should prompt you when nearing the oil change mileage. Perhaps if you are nearing 10% remaining life.....it is time to change the oil and filter. The Forum contains a wide berth of recommendations for first time oil changes (some as early as 250 miles) and some much up to 3000 miles. Each driver varies in driving conditions and environment. Your running out to 6500 miles is perhaps the longest that I have heard within my group of Camaro owners.

Good luck!
