The shop I went to for upgrades advised, "let's do some bolt on stuff, drive the car and then if you feel the need for a cam we'll talk about that later."
I'm glad I went that route. They installed American Racing LT Headers (no cats), throttle body and tuned the engine. I already had a KN intake. 438 HP at the wheel is more than enough for track work and really let the LS3 breathe. Behaves great on the road and as a Z/28 owner told me..."your car is loud as **** when you get in her." For streetability the sound is amazing. The harmonics bounce off everything. Driving between 2 semi trailers, bridges, underpasses and tunnels...really turns heads if that's what you want. After reading this thread and other Cam threads it appears more can go wrong with a Cam build than good. Sure...it makes for great lopey idle "Thumping Thursday" iPhone videos, but the story usually ends in "My engine dropped a valve/pushed a rod through the block/grenade etc.." Your car is no good to anyone except your local mechanic's pocketbook if it's in the shop all the time. Check the Z/28 threads on why a couple people made the switch to Z/28s from Z06s. The main reason being durability and availability. |

I just had a BTR stage 3 cam installed in my car. The car pulls hard from 3500rpm up. Almost stock like drivability.
