They can easily sell it if you don't want it, right?
Ask yourself, what if this happened after you had bought the car, say the day after, what are you going to do, sell it or not want it anymore?
One of our members here is as happy as can be with her Camaro that survived a hailstorm. It sustained damage, got fixed, and she took delivery of it.
^Thats the right attitude and approach.^ And yes, its not my car, but based on the pix I doubt anyone will ever notice when it fixed. Just make sure you get a guarantee on the paint or something in writing that it will be covered under the standard Warantee.

The main thing I would be worried about is whether the accident will be reported.

If it IS, that is A HUGE DEAL. If you ever try to sell your car, carfax will come up showing that it has been in an accident.

If the dealership won't report it, then let them fix it and inspect their work. If you're happy with it and can't notice it without REAALY looking for it, I think you'd be best off taking the car and asking for some nominal compensation - $500 off the price of the car, free oil changes for life, something along those lines.

But if the accident is going to show up on carfax, you'd best make sure that you get well compensated for it. Like $3-4k or so; because that's how much less your car will be worth to someone if they look up your car on carfax and see it's been in an accident.

He is my take. Over the years I purchased 2 new cars that had some kind damage or body/paint defects. Both were GM vehicles. One was never fixed to my satisfaction and I sold the car. The second I repaired with a new, factory painted part as I did not want a brand new car with non factory applied paint on it. Don't ask how I got that part. I would insist on a new factory painted bumper, however, GM will never send one to the dealer. They send parts in prime and the dealer paints them. If you can live with that, take the car after they repair it, if not walk away. However, since the body shop, service shop and sales shop are all separate identities in today's modern dealership, do not pay for the car until the defects are corrected. Their only motivation is $$$ period.

A DAMAGED Camaro is not a NEW camaro. Now its damaged goods which is not what you ordered. Make them order you a new one. Once a car is damaged that section of the car is never the same. Sure they can repair and paint it, but a few years from now that painted part can start to chip or peel. You dont know how good the quality of the fix is. They should order you a new one and charge the dooshbag mechanic for damages to the other one.

Let them fix it before you do the paperwork. Do you guys have any idea how many "new" cars have had paint work done before the car arrives to a dealership? More than you would believe. From the sound of it if they repaint the bumper it will probably have a better paint job, and more paint then the factory spray!

My sister in law worked the paint shop at the old S10 plant. She said cars get chips all the time going down the line and they just grab some touch up and dab it on and polish it out. No biggie

You'd be surprised how many new vehicles from the factory come to the dealership with some damage...in Virginia all the dealer has to do is fix-it-up (i.e paint, etc.) and doesn't have to report it as long as the cost to repair doesn't exceed $3K...so, who knows how many damaged vehicles are sitting on the lot (or have been sold with the prior damage)...in this case, refuse the car and tell them to order you another one.

[QUOTE=mcrizz;788265]same as yours look at the pics on page 2.[/QUOT that is an easy fix i fixed a little scratch on my front bumber .they took the whole bumber off spot painted it and cleared the whole thing . lucky it was on the bumber because the body and bumber are two different colors anyway nobody would never notice anyway .and the dealer will pick up the cost . and it wont be chp either there are about 12 different tints in that paint .most body shops have about 11 of those tints in house its the pearl aqua blue which will cost them about 130 dollars for a pint my little scratch cost me 750 bucks with the painted engine cover included good luck hope everything works out for you

and to all of you who say dont take the car because it has a scratch lets see what you would do if it happened to you. i understand if it was dented or something major like that but we have been waiting so long for our cars we dont want to wait anymore i can say this because my car came off the truck with a 9 inch scratch .i was asked if i wanted it or not . i said im taking it . the dealer told me take it to my shop and get it fixed . thank god it was able to be compounded out . the dealer paid for it and then some . .if the dealer kept it he would have fixed it and never told anyone and jack up the price about 5000 . f that im going to make the proofit on this one . bottom line .see how bad the damage is first .

I've had 2 brand new vehicles damaged before I took delivery. The dealer was upfront about it and fixed both. I accepted it and moved on.

To all those that are telling you to do this and do that and demand this would be the first to cave if the situation happenned to them. The internet has a way of giving courage where there is none.

You have the last decision here. If it's painted good as new then it's new.

Mole, I've missed you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got my car in July and she is perfect. Thank you so much for having a hand in the construction of this beauty.
Hope you are having a great summer and also hope that retirement has been awesome!

This should not have to be reported, I believe.

I'd ask them to please replace the fascia (we don't paint 'em at the factory for crash parts...) -- and if the finished product is acceptable to you, then take delivery.

This was an accident.

We all make them.

Put another way -- if you backed into someone's new Camaro, should you be required to replace that person's Camaro?

I purchased a new Camaro while in college. (balloon note) I had it three days when someone backed out of a driveway into the back of it -- it actually pushed the trunk down and bent the rear closeout panel and messed up the bumper.

The body shop did a great job of fixing it and I sold the car a year later. It came back on trade 5 years later and no damage apparent to the paint job......

Accidents -- they happen!

Let us know how everything works out.

I think you're on the right track with the free car cover.

They need to do something to make this right.

I agree with you all the way but as long that is not a carfax report - I would think not since it happen BEFORE delivery to the customer.

You agree?
