You reduced the movement of your arm by 25%. Instead of a 4" gear change, it's now a 3" gear change. Going from 1-4 totals a 4" difference in movement over 12 seconds. Did your clutch and gas foot get quicker?

Practice is going to be the best thing you've got going for you. It doesn't matter if it's a 3 or 4" throw. Running through the gears, getting your feet working quicker, seeing/hearing/feeling what the car are doing are going to make a much bigger difference then cutting .001 off your shift time from one gear to the next..

I would assume your like me and slam the gears as fast as you can. That means your still pushing forward/backwards after you hit he stop. You just have to get your feet moving before you hit it instead of after, otherwise your not going to see the difference in time to make the shift.

I can't tell a difference in the amount of time it takes to slam through the gears and I have a 40% shorter throw.

I could be way off base, but I never saw a difference it E.T. Just because of the shifter. Practice has shown a huge difference.

Hope that helped clarify my earlier comment.

That does help. Thanks. What is the short throw supposed to improve if anything?

Even a set of Nitto 555R or NT05Rs would help a bit. Something to think about when your stock Pirellis are toast.

I am running BFG Sport Comp 2. It made a big difference for traction.

I finally made a pass in mine, not used to this street tire stuff. Blew the tires off in a lot of first gear, slipped the clutch out around 2600rpm or so, had all traction control stuff off, next time I will try it with it on. Over-revved first since I could not see the tach! Got to try and use the tach in the Heads-Up display. I didn't buy it to race it so I really don't care too much. I already have two race cars that blows this thing away.

I will say when I went to a Barton my shifting was more reliable with the positive action and the short throw in my 2011 SS. The throw is adjustable. I was not faster but more consistent. The Barton is better than my 1LE/ZL1 shifter but I cannot keep the shift knob I like.

That 4th gear question is a good one. Tough to judge. But once you start modding you have to go to 4th. With the 1LE you always have to shift to 4th, modded or not.

As to shift points a cheap shift light is a great answer. Both the tach and the Hud are behind the engine. That is why my 1LE red line on the tach is at 6200. I have a switch under the dash to turn it off. It is annoying otherwise.

Just my $.02, but what do I know?

Gotta work, and I don't usually race during the summer. I lose 3-4 tenths and 4 mph in the heat.
