To prove my point, this is a NHRA winning driver that tests for GMHTP and has driven LS1 Camaros into the high 12s:
http://www.musclemustangfastfords.co...est/index.html "MM&FF Editor and resident car jockey Evan Smith handled the driving duties. After heating up the tires, he rolled into the beams and carefully slipped out the clutch from 4,000 rpm. The Shelby ripped off a 2.010-second 60-foot time, and finished the quarter-mile in 12.38 seconds at 115.38 mph. You may recall we previously ran 12.25 in another test Shelby, but that one was broken in well, and the conditions were improved. In addition, we were fighting a 10- to 15-mph head wind that would stick with us the entire test day. After giving the car a short cooldown, a second run was attempted. This time leaving at 4,500 rpm, the Shelby recorded a 12.510-second pass at 114.55 mph. The 60-foot time was nearly identical to the first run as the short time came in at a 2.018. When it ran another 12.51-second pass on its third effort in stock trim, we realized that due to a rise in ambient temperature the car would not come back to the 12.38 it ran early in the morning. In addition, it was difficult to launch on the stock tires." There is a lot more in this article, but this is exactly my point that taking times run by the wine and cheese rags' is not an accurate indication of how fast a lot of these cars are run. I think the fastest I've seen a stock LS1 F-body run, in one of those rags' was a high-13; my car ran low-13s on street tires and only a catback.

I give respect where it'd due, and it has been to the Mustang the last few years. The last two Cobras have truely been something to respect; I just hope that if we have a Camaro to compete with the Cobra, that it isn't as biased as it seems the Cobra is toward straight line speed, and have exceptional handling as well.
Things are only starting to get interesting. Wait to see what happens the next couple years

If 2010 mustang GT comes with 5.0L 32V engine and a 6-speed, it is probably going to be more expensive. It's funny because the only reason they are doing this now is because of Camaro/Dodge Challenger. Camaro will (probably) be a faster car of course due to it's lower weight and corvette engine. Edit: changed always to probably.

I really would like to know what the new Camaro is going to weigh in as. I guess we'll wait for those numbers to come in as well.

Is the Ecoboost the twin turbo V6 that I've been reading about here-and-there?

I wonder why we haven't heard something similar from GM. I know that there are a few turbo cars that GM has, but it seems like they are favoring superchargers more; is it because they are more simple to tune and keep reliable.

maybe its best left to the saying "to each his own", maybe ford gets a better deal with turbos and GM gets better deals on superchargers. It could also be maybe that GMs work better with superchargers, i dont know?... =\
