Hey guy,

How are you handling the window indexing with all the ice and snow we've been getting over the past two weeks? My car this morning was completely frozen up. Not only was the windows frozen which prevents the windows from dropping down but the door handle actually iced up! I was 20 minutes late for work than usual.

The only way out for me was to run hot water in the bathtub into a 5 gallon bucket then I took the bucket and chuck the hot water on the completely frozen door.

Geez, the window indexing thing is just scary when the car is parked outside and rain freezes like it did last night.

Remote start, let it run. I had the indexed windows on my G6 coupe, I had some pretty brutal freezeups a few times..

It is a pain. I imagine worse where you are then here in the GTA.

I would be really careful with the boiling water on frozen window.. couldn't the window break?

mines already in and soo the depression begins, im sure shes all depressed too......
Since my insurance is now 50 a month as opposed to the usual 600 a month.......let the mods begin ............but i got to start working again first
These cars would be fine in the winter. I would just get some blizzaks and good rust proofing and definitly a 3M clear bra if its going to do any winter driving. These cars were also tested in the snow. Brothers mustang does great in the snow! Good Luck guys but ill be keeping my baby in the garage away from the elements! Too bad we dont get year round weather like Cali

My issue was, I just happenned to not have the heater turned on (fan) so remote start really didnt do justice to the windows (MY BAD) but honestly, I didnt expect the whole side of the car to look like a slate piece of ice.

But in the future, I will take Main's advice and remote start and I just need to remember the heater on and heater on side windows button turned on.

Yeah.. It's a pain that the car follows the way you had it set last. My wife's 06' Impala would adjust according to temperature outside - works MUCH better. I always have the heat turned down or off by the time I get home. You will get in the routine tho.. especially if it is crummy outside. For the record, I only ever had an issue 2 or 3 times in the 4 years I had the G6... And these windows seem to be better at indexing.

A scraper works too.. focus on the ice along the bottom edge of the window.. crack it up.

Stored inside for winter. 4x4 for winter is the only way to go.

What are you guys planning on doing for extra weight in the back?

I was thinking of putting a couple bags of road salt back there... One, for the extra weight and, two, if i ever get in a REAL bind, crack open a bag and salt down what ever snow/ice it is you're stuck in.

Anyone have any other good ideas? I'm going from a 4x4 truck to a RWD Camaro, so I figure I can use any advantage I can get, lol. Winter tires are already ordered/ready to install.

Someone somewhere mentioned getting a pack or two of roof shingles. They're pretty heavy and if needed could be used for traction (one or two under each rear wheel). They're also won't shift or spill in the trunk like a bag of something might.

Be sure to let us know how your cars handle in the snow as my mom has been considering buying one but is unsure of how it will handle in the snow.

I was planning on getting 25 or 40 pounds weights from a fitness store. They are compact and mess free... Not sure about whether to get the 25s or 40s...

Mine goes back to the dealers on Tuesday to install new snowshoes. I ordered the Hertitage steel rims and Michelin X-Ice Xi2 tires (and of course the tire pressure monitor system..too bad they can't disable this feature for winter use). The dealer will store my summer tires for free so that make it a little easier to manage. I'll post some pics when it's done (if anyone's interested).

does putting weights in the trunk help your traction?
