And I can totally see it fitting, too. Take out the radio channel buttons, and put in a screen from there to the top.(maybe)

I often use my touch screen nav to look around for restaurants or other POIs. Who the hell wants to talk with some yahoo on the phone when you are sniffing around for things to do or a place to eat. Sometimes you just want to search around without the hassle of a person on the other end.

On-Star makes for a nice enhancement to touch screen nav, but it falls short as a replacement. GM blew it on this one folks. There is plenty of room where the existing audio system resides to have implemented touch screen nav.
No way I would ever pay $300 a year for On Star's crappy turn by turn service. If they ever decide to compliment the system with a standard 8 inch color LCD screen then maybe I will.

Mapquest, doesn't tell you where you are.
On Dash systems, look like crap. I can take it off the dash, but that is a hassle.
On Star, is a rip off.

No if's, and's, or but's IMO In Dash is the only way to go.

Sorry.
I guess I still just don't see the need for any navigation systems (OnStar/mapquest/In-Dash/etc)...you get a map, you get a car, and you go....

Same here. I'm of the opinion that if you can't use a map, a nav system will be of little help to you.

You got to be kidding.

The navigation system is a lot easier to use than a map, and a trying to find a street sign. Hit a few keys and go, then just follow the prompts. Much easier than a stupid paper map, or map quest. Just understand I don't want to be bothered with maps, this is easier and less time consuming.

To me owning a in dash navigation is an indulgence like owning a Camaro. I don't need either, but both make my life easier or more enjoyable. I would think on a site with many people willing to spend $10k's on such a vehicle, then thousands more on performance enhancements they would understand. I guess I was wrong.

Well, a map imo is too much of a distraction. If you're alone you need to pull over and study it. You can't make quick looks while driving to be sure you're still on course.

I may consider an In-Dash Nav a total waste of $$, but a Nav in and of itself is a great thing to have.

Real men don't need no stinkin directions!
But seriously, TAG is right, even tho I use Delorme on a PC all day long. There's no substitute for knowing where you're going, and if you don't know, find out before you leave. Take that advice from someone that drives 140,000 miles a year. Real men DO ask for directions

Agree. I tell students a hundred times before they finally get it..."KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING BEFORE YOU LEAVE!" (yes I yell after the 3rd time.) Then I let them get lost, again and again, then finally it hits home. If you really want to do it in style, mount a 13 inch touchscreen in the car attached to a PC with Delorme atlas. Anything less is uncivilized.

I am extremely happy with my Alpine aftermarket system. It is fully integrated into my dash. The navigation unit itself is a portable unit that docks inside the headunit. It is a very nifty system. It is not as nice as a garmin but it really gets the job done, and is a clean install. any questions i will be happy to answer.

Thats an impressive navigation system you have, looks awesome. I usually don't like aftermarket headunits because it doesn't look factory installed, but that looks like it was put in at the factory. Is that in your H3?
