I was soo excited on how nice the car looked,, everything was livid. Then I made arrangements to head over to a friends place to watch Transformers on bluray which was like a 10min drive from the car wash. Two blocks from his house, I lost control of the car while I was accelerating from 35~50km/h in a residintial area (within speed limit which was 50km). I wasnt speeding but the car shifted down and began fish tailing. From there I lost it swerving back and fourth until it got worse then I slammed right into an oak tree. At this point of time I dont believe what is happening to me. The car I fell in love with is gone and honestly its all my fault. I just dont get it, I know I have bad luck but this is just over the top. The feeling I experienced when the car smashed was horrid. The air bags made a high pitched wineing sound and bits of fluids like a mist type substance came out of somewhere and it smelt rank. Tranny fluid and engine coolent all poured out. The car is destroyed as the rad was ripped in two, air bags deployed, front bumper shatered and the windshield smashed in passengers top right. The thing that made me cry the most was my sunroof. I had the sunroof open and the windows closed. after the accident, the sunroof was bent right off its hidge and hanging suspended by a bent track.

Traction control/stabil was left on. I had the stock tires on.

Tomorrow I deal with insurrance if anything can be done.

I refuse to take photos of the damage as this was my baby, the one thing I knew that would be with me when I was on down times. I was soo excited looking forwards to another camaro meet hoping for one in the spring.

So with all due respect, I'd like to thank everyone I've had the oppertunity to chat with over the past eight months, you guys are all awesome. Going forwarrds, hearing about Camaros makes me honestly sobe as I know I got nothing now. I broke something that was nice and now its gone. Hopefully someday, I will get another 5th gen and maybe I'll be less stupid and respect road conditions a little more.

Everyone, from this one single post, please please learn from my stupid mistakes and respect the road conditions. I didnt and paid for it. Slow down and use extreme caution.. These cars have rediculous amounts of hp and winter driving with a rear wheel drive just makes it that more complicated.

Regards,

Shaun

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to this, I have been working up north with no net connection.

Sorry to hear of your loss, The car can be replaced, you will heal and drive again another day. I also get very close to my iron so I can understand what you are feeling. But this could have been a lot wosre at least the police didn't have to let your family know that they just lost a son right.
Next time we are in Edmonton we will look you up to see how you are doing.

Take care my camaro friend
It is hard to understand now, but everything happens for a reason

Hey everyone,

So I'm still waiting to hear from the insurance company to await the fait of my financial situation. Several folks said they will rebuild the front end of the car if the damage doesnt exceed fifty percent the value of the original cost.

Physically, I've gotten lots of bruising and everyone else is recovering fine at home getting rest. I'm now facing financial stress and depression as this could potentially make me bankrupt.

Since Sunday, I've returned to the car to loot my personal belongings (winter jacket, documents, money). The car was locked up in the police compound, parden my words but those cops were a bunch of asses, only allowing five minutes from the gates to gather my belongings. It had taken me 2min to walk to the vehicle :( . It looks as if from the front wheels and back, everyone seems ok thou the engine looks like it had taken all the impact along with the rad.

I have a photo that I will not post but if you would like to see the damage, I heard it was posted in Mondays Edmonton Sun.

Again, thankyou everyone for all these very heart whelming responses to this horrific accident, I've carefully read every single one of your posts and I'm very convinced that this forum/club is truly a place to be.

Awaiting insurance matters. I will keep everyone informed on what will be the outcome.

The Camaro wasn't designed to be driven in the snow, mine will be parked from November until May each year, unfortunate but a fact of life in Calgary (or any other snow bound city).

Then I don't understand why they spent the time and money testing the prototype in the snow? Must be one of life’s mysteries.

http://www.insideline.com/chevrolet/...et-camaro.html

I think the more accurate statement is no car is designed to drive on black ice.

Shaun. I dont know you. I have never read a post of yours on the forums. But one thing I do know is how you must be hurting not just physically but emotionally. Sometimes the emotional pain is much more painful.

I know this may seem like the end of the world sometimes, but let me tell you its not.

You have to make a decision my brother. You can lie on the ground and suck your thumb or you take action and resolve all that has gone wrong.

You crashed the car. many have crashed their car, insurance has paid out and they got another car. If you didnt have new replacement cost then get another Camaro of similar value.

STOP demeaning yourself. You are a decent human being (as far as I can tell). To me that is everything. You are you because of YOU not because you have a Camaro 2010 to drive.

You WILL get another Camaro. I dont know why you feel you've lost everything. You had an accident. You didnt get in the car and say "Hey, see that tree over there, watch me plow into it".

Get the insurance sorted out, Get another Camaro, and get on these forums posting pics of the new car. Forget the pics of the crashed one, its drepessing and we all have seen enough of those.

One final note, I decided NEVER to drive this beast in the winter. I am addamant about that, maybe you may reconsider that too.

All the best. We are all here for moral support but you gotta change your mind frame.

Rooting for you buddy!

Ali

Just remember a car can be replaced. Most of us have smacked up our dream cars. I remember my first "real car" was a mint 73 camaro. I seen it and fell in love. I busted my ass to scrape up the money for it. I was 17 at the time. 5 days later I smacked it up. When it was towed the tow company smacked the rear quater. I was just about in tears. But life did go on. A lot of us have been down that road. Remember "This too shall pass". Keep your chin up.

Well that is the very first time I have ever heard of a car being sold new from a car lot that was illegal to drive immediately.
But then again, I am not that familiar with the purchasing process in Canada.. But I think it is safe to say, I have found a huge flaw in that system.

"here are the keys, Now go break the law immediately by starting the ignition and placing the car in gear."
So that means:

Here are the keys..

OH ...BTW your new car does 155 MPH but the law says the Max Speed is 70 MPH.

Kill yourself or some one else doing 100 MPH you can come back and find GM at fault because we made it possible to do 155?

So GM has to put a max speed limiter(70) so some driver will not break the law?

NO! lol

Huge difference.

You see....you aren't, through the normal sale of the car, going to be asked to go 155 mph--- they are however going to request you do drive it off the lot.

I contend that buying a car in Canada during the winter months, driving off the lot should be prohibited, just like they won't let you drive off without proof of insurance. (In most states, if not all)

With this huge flaw by GM. You don't have to speed, to break the law, you simply have to drive your OEM car across the threshold of the private lot, onto the public road, and bam, you are breaking the law. No matter what.

I am saying that if the dealer is going to allow you to drive off the lot, they should require you to change the tires first. Otherwise flatbed it home.

Otherwise GM is encouraging you to break the law, and a good lawyer could argue that GM is aiding and abiding you in your unlawful acts. Because they 100% knew that they were selling a product that wasn't fully street legal, but still allowed the person to drive off the lot.

I am all for personal responsibility, but seriously,, Shouldn't you be able to reasonably expect GM to sell you a full street legal car?

Hell for all I know this strange law could be covered in some GM paperwork you sign when purchasing the car, saying that your cars tires are not legal at this current time, and you bare all responsibility to have your tires changed before you leave the lot.... but if they don't then that is the problem....

OP-- you are obviously super stressed and depressed about this...
but I am not following your logic at all.. You are worried about being bankrupt and having your life ruined? Have you never had an accident before.

Trust me people have accidents all the time, that is what insurance is for.. You will be fine.

The laws in Canada give you 7 days to get tires from registration, so GM IS selling you a legal product. And most dealerships offer winter tire packages.
