Trying to have some fun that could have ended with fatalities. The track is for racing, the street is for driving. Sounds to me like the kid learned the lesson the only way he was going to. Around here, street racing is a felony. You want to take your chances with that for "a little fun?" Because I sure don't.

Save your indignation for someone who deserves it. Someone who does what that kid did needs to learn the lesson the same way he did.

I'm not going to sit here and pretend that anyone with a Camaro or Mustang is going to drive no faster than the posted speed limit, never do a burnout, and never participate in a stoplight drag or two. Lord knows that I have done all of those things with my previous F- bodies and I'm sure I will again when I get my 5th gen. The fact is that they are all illegal and that there is some inherent danger to each of those activities.

If somebody wants to do those things then they at least need to have enough brains to do them relatively safely. What the dummy in the Mustang showed is that he lacks situational awareness. If he's so clueless that he didn't check his immediate area for cops before challenging someone to a drag race, than he's probably also not seeing that there's an octogenarian in a Grand Marquis who just made a right hand turn into his lane and has cut off his deceleration lane, for example. He's not noticing the school zone a block ahead. He's not in control of himself enough to react when the Rolls- Royce pulls out of the subdivision in front of him like in Back to the Future 3. Sorry, but I want that kid to get a ticket because he's obviously got more horsepower than he has brains.

If you're going to do something minorly "wrong," such as street race, you still have the responsibility to do it right. And it's an individual responsibility. It's not the OP's job or anyone else's to warn you when you're about to be stupid. I'll bet that kid checks for Crown Vics the next time he wants to drag. While he's doing that, maybe he'll see one of the other hazards around him.

I will agree with you that there is at least one ******* on this forum.

In Texas, we usually make an attempt to warn other drivers about radar traps and smokey bears...even in the face of gr8 dumbassitty.

The op did the right thing by being a responsible driver. It's not his place to control what others do. The kid had the chance to be responsible and made a personal decision not to. Don't blame the op. Might as well blame society and run for some lawyers

Again, one more time, I didn't see the officer until I saw the blue lights. He was stopped, right at my rear fender with the lights on, so I assume he had been there the entire time.

That's when the person is cruising down the freeway and can't see the cop a mile ahead.

When the cop is right behind the person as he's asking to race....yeah. We let that guy learn the hard way too. A hard lesson learned today is a life saved tomorrow.

It also includes sitting at intersections...it's an unwritten code of honor among muscle car owners...at least it used to be. But if being a total tool will save lives, I guess that makes it okay.
