Unfortunately, I will never get the time back in my life from reading this thread. To quote an Adam Sandler movie, 'We are all dumber for listening to you. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.' "

Oil isn't man made. it's all natural and totally green when you really think about it. Batteries are made out of some pretty nasty products that don't decompose very quickly if at all. If every car goes to batteries, we will just have a knew kind of pollution.
My problem with this entire thing isn't oil. It's the fact that it doesn't seem that enough is being done to get it stopped and that they seemed to never have a plan in place for this sort of thing.

Do you think the carbon foot print of manufacturing and buying two brand new cars in one year (for one individual) can ever be recouped by making the second car a fuel efficient one?

I'm sure you're right, but forgetting where my electricity may come from or about the plastic and metal in my TV and computers, which of course also relies on oil, somehow isn't as hard-hitting to me as my car is. Sure maybe I'm a hypocrit. I also enjoy a cheeseburger but could never be a hunter. Allz I'm sayin', is that I don't enjoy my Camaro as much as I used to, is ' all...

No.

But I didn't say I would sell my car and buy another one. All I said was that I don't enjoy driving it as much as I used to.

I guess I am going to stop eating because of my guilt over the fact that the loaf of bread that I made my sandwich with came to me by...let's see...a farmer had to operate a diesel powered tractor to plow the field, where he then planted seed brought to the local supply house by a train or a truck. Diesel powered equipment mined phosphate in Florida, which was transported by train to a plant where it was processed into fertilizer, which was then hauled by rail to a distributor near our farmer. Said fertilizer was applied, the field irrigated by diesel powered pumps, the grain harvested by a tractor, hauled by truck to an elevator, hauled by train to be processed into bread, hauled by train or truck to the grocery store. Oh yeah, we have evil oil to also thank for the plastic wrapper that kept it fresh, and the insecticides that allowed the crop to grow. Oh yeah--and the tractors and trains couldn't have been built if diesel powered machines didn't mine and haul coal and iron ore to steel mills...and ohh yeah, the asphalt that paved the road that I drove on to get to the grocery store? That darn oil AGAIN! Geez--I'm just going to have to starve. My God...

The spill in the gulf is bad, but it happened. Accident or conspiracy, it happened--it's done.

Did you really just say Oil is totally green? It may be naturally occurring but its the altering of it and then changing the balance of nature that is the issue.

To the OP: My home runs on wind-power. Between the coal/oil/gas that used to be burned to power my home, and the gas I burn driving my Camaro--which do you think had the bigger impact?

Every year 62 million gallons of oil are naturally released into the ocean from the ocean bottom and sedimentary rock.

Nothing you can sell can stop natural oil seepage.

And I think everyone is trying to tell you, you're taking it too hard and blaming the wrong thing. It just doesn't make sense.
