The stares are just too cool. I can never get enough of that.

So, when it comes to getting the 5th Gen, I don't have the same "bond" w/ the SS as I did the Z28. I SERIOUSLY don't want to see it go. My wife already said we are going to try to work it out so we can keep it. But, I know it's going.....just no way to afford it. Right now, she's in perfect shape. If they mess w/ the 5th Gen too much, or they don't offer the right options for me, I'm going to hold off. I'm VERY happy where I'm at right now. So, I know exactly how you feel, Ed. She's part of the family.
I'm in a similar boat as this too. This car has gotten me in more trouble with my wifey than anything because I love it so much. It's just not going to be practical to keep it though; I wish I could. If I can get the car I want from GM, the sting won't be as bad, but I know I'll miss her. I've kept her up like I've been planning to keep her forever but I'm sure I'll be forced to sell her in order to be in a position to get the car I want (or will have to make.) I feel your pain and it's heartbreaking for me to think about...

It suck's that we have to give up cars we love to get new ones. If you're indescive now, just take your SS down to a dealer and see what they'll give you for it. The market has collapsed for all cars, and I was shocked at what a Chevy dealer offered me. Killed my new Corvette deal.

The credit crunch still unfolding may kill any new car, for some time.

Upside, keep the car you LOVE! I am, for now.

I think it will be months before you find any dealer who will let you test drive a new Camaro SS. At first there won't be any at dealers other than those that were pre-ordered by customers or that dealers deliberately ordered for stock so they could stick them in their showrooms and mark them up. Maybe after a couple months you can find a dealer who will let you test drive a V6.

My second car (first was an old 82 Accord) was a '95 V6 Mystic Teal Camaro with manual transmission. I got it used in '98 and it only had about 11k miles on it. It had practically no options except for cruise. It had the manual mirrors and roll down windows, but MAN did that little 3.4L have some attitude, and the color was just gorgeous! To this day, I still miss that car and wish I hadn't traded it in.

But the day I drive my SS off the lot (hopefully in March depending on production movement) will be one of the best days of my life, like witnessing the birth of a child. It will be exactly as I want it (provided they give us blue in the next few months), it will be new, and it will have that wonderful Corvette V8!! I get butterflies just thinking about it. I'd love to go to a Camaro meet with this one some time, and just be surrounded by all that Camaro goodness. It's one thing I have yet to experience.

I can most definitely understand the sentiments felt here. I LOVE my '97 Z28 but the only I can afford to get a new 2SS/RS is by trading it in plus we already have 6 cars in the driveway.

Let me preface this by saying I don't like to "brag" about my Camaro. There are many more Camaro's out there that put mine to shame. But to me, my SS is special.

I thought more about this dilemma, (selling the SS in order to get a new Camaro), after taking the SS for a ride yesterday. While sitting at a red light, with the windows down and the t-tops off, I overheard some guys sitting in the panel truck alongside me commenting on the car. At the next light, they pulled alongside and we exchanged some comments about my SS. I pulled away feeling extremely proud to be driving a Camaro.

It also made me think of all the times I see someone enjoying their 1st or 2nd Gen. Camaro, and how I think how lucky they are to own such a cool Camaro. "They don't make them like that anymore". It made me wonder if there are people out there making similar comments about the 4th Gen.?

All I know is, I drove home feeling lucky to own my SS and I enjoyed every minute of the ride. Once I got home, I treated the SS to a nice bath and some Zaino.

The 5th Gen. Camaro is going to be awesome for sure. Just don't forget to enjoy the Camaro you already own. Regardless of age, or condition, all Camaro's are special. And I'm afraid to say, mine is too special to me to sell for any reason.
Everyone compares cars to women...well....not so much...

I'm sure your car won't mind if you decide to take a mistress....

But if your Camaro finds out you have been spending evenings in another car...you know, that whole hell hath no fury thing

Been Done Before, By A Wealthy Guy In the Dallas Area several years back mid to late 90s I Believe.. Found these two others as well.

The Associated Press, on May 6, 1998, reported that a woman who lived in Tiverton, Rhode Island, was buried in a 1962 Corvair automobile that she owned. Janet Kerlin, Tiverton Woman Buried in Beloved Car, Associated Press, May 6, 1998. The engine, steering wheel, and seats were removed to make room for her casket. Such a burial plan would not work with a MiniCooper.

A man was buried in his 1984 Corvette. Buried in Style: Man Gets Wish . . . Interment in His ‘Vette, Associated Press, May 25, 1994. Other reports of car interments have not been found—perhaps environmentalists concluded that burying bodies in automobiles presented grave problems, or it may be that it was felt that graves should be associated with caskets and not gaskets.

Moose came across your thread, I've been going threw the samething the past year but like you can't seem to run that add. I found a place to store it, still in the holding pattern about selling it. This thread shows the passion that people have for this historical car, what ever year or condition it's hard to let them go. Good thread Moose

If it's that special to you, don't get rid of it. You'll be extremely happy either way, but you'll kick yourself either way. You'll think about it more every time you see a 5th gen go by, and if you sold your ss, you'd miss the t-top, etc.

A nice pre 5th gen is not as easy to come by as the new one you can go to any dealer and order any way you want for years to come. Especially the SLP SS's that are alot more limited in production.

Agreed. I've been tempted (hooo boy. ) and in the end I keep coming back to the 5th Gen. Why?

It'll be my first Fbody and Camaro. I've considered Trans Ams in the past, and one day I will own one. But for now, post grad.. I might as well go the distance and get one that I can call "mine" and drive it until the rear end pukes out..

Like this..

well i suppose zombie-threads mean people are beginning to use the search feature at last

if you love a car, and you know that if you sell it you're going to miss it like heck and regret it for the rest of your life, i'd keep it.
