the trap speeds of the 5.0 being tested seem fair to me. the air is getting hot and humid. they arent all going to go 110-111 now.

when the camaro was first tested in cool spring air it was going 111 mph too. when guys were trying them in the summer the speeds were down.

I'm older than most here, and no matter if it were Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, or Vette, it would be the lowest option car available. Why? Because I don't like leather, I don't need my seats to move 50 different ways with the push of a button, I don't care about disco lights all over the place, I can hear the stereo without it putting out a million watts with a hundred adjustable frequencies, my butt gets warm enough without a butt heater, my phone has navigation if I need it, scoops and wings and things do nothing but add weight, drag and money, larger wheels are heavy and expensive, and in general, the more crap there is to break the more crap that will break.

And I'm fully aware that I am in a very small minority of potential buyers. To each their own, of course.
Bob

PS....But after all that, I'd kill for T-tops in either the Camaro or Mustang.

No matter how you look at it, the GT500 is simply not worth the $$. It offers horrible performance return for the dollar.

This, in addition to the fact that the the Stang's styling has already been out for 6 years and is getting old.

That's why when I was looking to buy one of the v6 versions, I got the Camaro.

There's more to a car than 1/4 mile performance. Only rich and/or foolish people buy brand new showroom stock cars to race in the 1/4 mile on a regular basis.

It's 1 year old. Not 6. While it may look somewhat similar to the 2005-2009 models, it is different and won't be changed until the next 5 year refresh in 2015.

What was said, the GT500 is more than 1/4 mile times. As for the style, every body body was changed for 10 and while the style is similar, it is totally different too with every panel and profile being different.

As you pointed out, you're in the minority in hating the amenities that help make cars more enjoyable to a lot of us though. You're describing the difference between a drag car and a daily driver. Sure, all of those bells and whistles are negatives to your ET and trap speed, but they make the grind of a daily commute in a busy metropolitan area so much more tolerable. I will NEVER buy a car without bluetooth again! What can it add, 2 lbs? It really does depend on what your main goal is for your vehicle. What gets me are the "car enthusiasts" who choose an automatic transmission, completely removing themselves from a true drivers experience, all because they are afraid to miss a shift at the track!

I used to fee that way about automatics, but then they started showing up in F1 and other highly advanced forms of racing. I no longer hold automatics in contempt.

My drag cars have always been my daily drivers (even my 2004 NMRA Factory Stock Championship winning 99 Cobra took me to work and back virtually every day). I simply do not want, need, or wish to pay for those things I listed.

And as stated, I completely understand and accept that I am in the very small minority. Sucks to be me from that perspective. LOL.

To each their own. And I hate to admit this....but the new A6 in the 2011 GT has me thinking....

I don't see how dollar for dollar someone can choose a GT500 over a Hennessy ever.
