If you're gonna bitch at me and support the ZL1 bandwagon, fine, your opinion counts just as much as mine so feel free to bite off a nice chunk of that $58,000 marketing ploy. Not my cup of tea and I stated why. In case you missed it, I don't agree with Chevy resurrecting a super rare and exclusive nameplate and mass-producing it.
The reason my car is sitting pretty in the garage until May is not because I sit in my lawn chair admiring it, but because I've been in Afghanistan for the last 6 months, so feel free to KISS my #$%! Matter of fact, my wife drove my car today and we live on a dirt road, so I'm sure it's all nice and dusty and dirty...just for you. Want me to have her send you a pic?

Are we having fun yet? lol

I was figuring that the two or so ZL1 owners would kick in and talk smack, but not yet.
Not sure I could ever bring myself to doing the trailer-hitch thing though....In that respect, I am too much of a purist. I have a truck for that. Pretty sure we had this discussion many months ago when you first posted that. Insert dead horse comment here. And yes, on occasion I take my car to get groceries, but the Camaro trunk isn't exactly good for that; plus the nitrous bottles take up too much room. I'm way too retentive to leave my car in a parking lot full of mini-vans and soccer moms, so in that respect I definitely baby it. I park way the F out there if I have to do that. Mine is not an everyday car.

I do enjoy going to a car show once in a while, but it's more about showing off the work and making a car unique than winning for me. I see plenty of people on the ABM thread with a bag of trophies with their bone stock Camaros and it's just a big WTF? You went to the dealer, got a loan, drove it home and now you get a trophy at a show? Someone please explain that to me. Which brings me back to the ZL-not-1's. When Camaro Fest rolls around, I bet not a single owner of these cars will have made any mods to them, with the exception of Lingenfelter, and they don't count. That's their job. There will be 50 of them in a row, all bone stock. Car guys mess with their cars. Period. We'll see. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm guessing not. I'd stand and admire a V6 Camaro with a home-made Twin Turbo system before a bone stock anything any day...but that's just me being me.
Off to sleep. Maybe we can vent again tomorrow.

Hey AquaRSSS, you found a future owner that wants to toss some posts back and forth with ya!

Just wanted to figure out why you hate the car so much? I mean, I get you are pissed that they used the ZL1 name on this car, is that the only reason you hate it? I too agree that as far as history related naming goes that bringing back the Z/28 badge would have been more fitting for this model (especially considering how they have used it in the past for models not as fitting as this one)

We finally get something from the factory that is pretty much already modded, track ready, with standard factory warranty. What's not to like? Is it just a price issue? Do you honestly think that it's a ripoff for what you get? Or do you just have to mod it yourself with aftermarket parts to be a 'car guy'?

Do you think the GT500 is a horrible car too since it'll be track ready also (with like $6500 more for the performance/track options)?

Are we just going to compare it to a Vette? Which IMO is just too different to really compare the Camaro too. Yeah I can get a used Z06 for the same price, can I take my wife and son around in it at the same time? No. I felt that at this point in my life, this is the perfect car for me, I can take the wife and kid to the car meet-ups, different shows, the track, whatever we get time for

There's something to be said for drive it out the door, great car, and a warranty. Heck, warranty is part of why I did the LPE package. Funny thing is after 1 1/2 years I was wanting to do more and pretty much tossed my 3 yr warranty. Anyway, it's your money, so go have fun - it's a Camaro!

It's mostly about using the ZL1 name for a car that is really spec'd out to be a Z series car. Maybe call it a Z29, Z something or other, maybe even bring back the Z28 name...just not ZL1. That's the Holy Grail of Camaros and pumping them out mass production doesn't do it justice. That's all.

Nothing against future and current owners of the cars. For the money, I guess it'd be worth it IF you road-raced it regularly. I just hope no one thinks they're buying a classic, which I'm sure I'll be hearing at the meets and cruises. Same thing happened to all the guys who bought Challengers that first year. It's just a car guys. The ZL-not-1 is leaps and bounds above that junk, but I always find it particularly amusing how (some) people talk about how they bought their new classic as an investment, bla, bla...It's not going to be worth more $$ next year. Not gonna happen.

Since you mentioned GT-500s, they on the other hand follow the traditions for which those cars were intended, past and present. Shelbys were always designed to be track cars. Period. Some saw drag strip duty, but they were primarily built for road courses. Same goes for the BOSS.So, their names fit.
The Shelbys are equally as pricey though. Upper 50's to 70K for a muscle car is too much for me to digest. Wait 3 years and it's always half price. Not sure what the current comparisons are for Zxxx vs the GT500, but at that point, buyers are probably leaning more toward their personal preferences rather than all-out numbers.
Corvettes..don't care. As exciting as VW Campers to me. (unless it's a 58, 63 or 67)

I'm more of a Gearhead, so I will retract my banter about the car guy thing. I can't expect everyone to feel comfortable with tearing into their new Camaros and tear them apart voiding warranties, etc. just because that's what I do. But if you tell me you're a car guy and I see your bone stock Camaro V6 with a rattle-canned engine cover, don't expect to be invited to my next picnic...just sayin. If you have a racing helmet in the back seat, you might get a vote back.

Ok,,end of my 12 hour shift...I'm out. I will argue with you all later, and like it. I will miss first two Supercruises too so maybe I'll run into you guys at the Frisco BBQ or sumn.

The grand sport was victory red, as most of you know i would rather have any color short of pink before red so I pulled the trigger on the camaro. My order # is QHZTSW Now I just have to hope my dealer gets there allocation. I am their first 2013 order.

Totally agree on the investment part of things. Silly to me how anyone will think that a newer pony car from this era is magically going to turn into huge $$$ like some of the classics have today. It's just not going to happen again. The classics from the 50's,60's,70's will keep getting worth more and more as the laws keep getting passed making it harder and harder for car makers to put out high HP low MPG vehicles. And the current cars will just keep depreciating as 99% of cars do.

I'm know that my ZL1 will eventually be worth 1/2 what I paid for it, but I feel that it'll take about 4+ yrs. The smart thing to do would definately have been to pick up a used one for $40-45K in a couple years, but I just don't have think kind of patience And realistically I'll probably keep it for 2-3 years and trade it in on a 6th gen .....Z/28 maybe....

I wish that Chevy would have made the ZL1 feel a bit more exclusive like Ford has done with the GT500 though. Hand built engines and they keep the production numbers pretty low. But to me it does come down to styling and not numbers. You can always increase your HP. The guy with the most money is going the be the quickest at the track. There is always gonna be someone faster. So I don't get too worried about track times and all that. But one thing you can't change is styling. The Camaro just has a more aggresive styling and I had always wanted a '69 Camaro, so this is the best of both worlds. The retro looks from a 1st gen with all the new technology the 5th gen brings.

Man, it is too bad we are all making so much sense.....kinda makes it tough to argue with each other

Seriously it's not that I don't like the Camaro's anymore it's just that I've had a ton of issues with this car and my latest trip to Purifoy to get possibly the third a/c compressor really pissed me off.Especially when they told me I might have to foot the bill because I had 47,000 miles and it was out of the 3 yr 36k mile warranty.
Blower fan replaced
Radiator replaced
Muffler rattle,Hajek wouldn't cover it. $600 for new Flowmaster
2 a/c compressor failures, latest now is it stops blowing cold air then starts again.
Unknown cost for that.
Replaced radio antenna because reception sucked
Blown front speaker
Had to disassemble the whole back speaker cover because it rattled so bad
The clicking of the rear wheels that I had to bring the car back 2x and was lied to about spacers being installed.
And let's not forget about the early Vin Trans shaft snapping issues.
Or the early vin cars snapping CV's on hard launches.

I'd love to bring the car to Brian and have him cam it and tweak my rear but how much time do I have left on this shaft or CV's.
So while I do love the Camaro I just think It's time to move on to what I've always wanted since I was a little kid.

How big is the gathering and what time does it usually start? Maybe we should find a Saturday and do a Camaro blowout

I wish there were more of these closer to Longmont, heck - I'd have my morning coffee there every Saturday

Not sure here yet.... still a maybe - but I'm trying! Noticed you changed your avatar description to "car hoarder" Sometimes feel that way with Cheri and I having 4. I need Kirk's automatic car wash next door and a blindfold for Randy (actually - I couldn't bear it either)

Are you still planning on Cfest?

Only 12 hrs Rob 24+ hrs straight has started many a workweek for me. Not exactly like Afganistan though. I feel for ya - sounds like hard work and you need some hands on Camaro time

I'm leaning really hard towards Frisco BBQ..... sounds like a nice drive too.

Anything to do on your Camaro before Camaro5festIII? I've got a Street Slayer RPS triple carbon clutch on order - hopefully fix high rpm shifts completely and be streetable (like everything else... I've heard far extremes between good & bad - but in the end, don't want tranny damage due to clutch)

Should be another fun one at Cfest

Almost everything breaks or has defects when you push it - or you paid a ton (so basically paid it anyway). If we all drove like Grandma, that would be different - but then we would own a Prius, Civic or something. Heck, all these wonderful aftermarket parts have their bugs and growing pains too. Live and enjoy I say.
