I had to take a day off from the elliptical machine. I got up to 6000 revolutions a day, but after 6 day in a row my knees start to hurt, back on today I hope!

Does any one know if its possible to gain weight ( muscle ) from doing just cardio? I've weighed 151 for last 4 days, been eating about 1100 cal. a day and watching sodium, burning 600-800 cal a day with exercise. I should be dropping fast .

Technacilly the answer is no. Although cardio is exercise it's not usually associated with muscle gain. Muscle gain does not come easy and you need to work your muscles much harder in a different way than from cardio. Also where as I do not know your specifics if you are burning 600-800 cals a day and your cal intake is 1100 your CALORIE INTAKE IS MUCH TO LOW. Your body will go into starvation mode and anything you eat will most likely get stored as fat. Also you may think your burning 600-800 cals a day but with just cardio that is a high amount. People usually think just because your starving yourself and exercising you will loose weight but it will backfire, you must EAT but you must eat right. If you keep accurate food journals and post them perhaps some here can make suggestions.

I do agree that you should not give up and it is defanately not a failure, sometimes your diet/program may need some adjustments so it's a learning experience, if you do nothing to correct it or give up it can become a failure. What do you eat and what do you do for exercise>

I must disagree that it's muscle gain, it is vertually impossible to gain that much muscle in such a short period of time even with the use of steroids.

My BMR is about 1700 cal. per day. I was eating about 150 cal. every 3 hours( 1200 a day) , and burning 600-800 cal. in cardio a day. I'm going to up it to about 200 cal. every 3 hours( 1600 cal. a day) , and try to burn 400-500 cal a day in cardio.

Does any one know if this seams too few cal. or have any input?

Few foods i regularly eat....

grilled chicken breast
low fat yogurt
low fat milk
special k (protein plus)
apples
chicken and rice soup (healthy choice/ low sodium)
popcorn (low fat/ low sodium)
protein shakes
eggs
oatmeal
green beans

I only drink water or rarely G2 gatorade, unless... It's one of those weekends

yelled at

I got yelled at for only eating about 65-75% of the calories I need. I am tring to eat closer to 80-85% but lately I just havent been hungry. I'm at 13 pounds since the first, been there for about 5-6 days. Hoping eating a little more calories helps break the stop in weight lose.

You should get yelled at. Not eating enough is the reason most people who "diet" do not get results or even more often the opposite results. You have to eat.

With a little more info I may be able to help. The info needed to figure out accuarately what your calorie intake should be would be

gender
age
height
weight
activity level.

The formular on how to figure it out is on post #394. If your not sure of the math you could post the info needed and I can do it for you. Also on the foods you eat quantities and what you eat together and when is important.

WOW...following this formula, I'm supposed to have 2700 calories a day! That's crazy! CFD: I'm sending you my numbers to work up and see if I'm right!

I'm lucky if I get 1200 a day now!
