Ok got a warning for my great LLT owners out there, Most of us know of this already. Yesterday I was doing maintenance on my car when I got tripped out badly. I was checking the oil and seen that I had no oil at all in my car and found that weird. Things were fine the day before. I added 2 QT's, then 2 more, then 4 more. I thought my turbo was burning the oil and I wasn't noticing it. After adding the last 4 qt's I drove the car 2 miles when it went into what seems to be Limp mode. I shut it off and checked my oil again after letting it cool at a gas station for 10 min. All the oil was gone again. I added 2 more qt's (I'm laughing and freaking out at this point). Start it up and half way back home the car turned into a smoke screen maker as everything behind my was clouded. I call Tracy and he gives my some good tips. I pull over and called my SS buddy so he follows my home. We look over everything and no leaks and all in order. SO we agree to drain the car of oil to see if it's actually empty. PEOPLE LET ME TELL YOU GM NEEDS TO DO BETTER. I drained like 12-13 qt's of good oil out my car. The car was over fill by me because of the crazy A.S.S. LLT engine that eats oil BUT it actually doesn't eat it. I replaced the oil in the car and things looked great now. AND I now have a little over 6 qt's of oil for the next oil change lmao! BUT now my issue is that I have another bad MAF. The car is under the cover now just waiting on till Wednesday when I'm off again since I pull my back. Damn Army injuries!!!

Yep, I remember reading others saying this same type of thing.

Here is my question for you: Was the car completely cooled down when you checked the oil...or perhaps was it still a bit warm or hot from driving it earlier?

From what I've seen, the best time to check the oil is like in the morning after leaving it set. When the car is hot, it seems that it can sometimes give a false reading.

With that much oil in your car, glad you didn't cause worse damage!

The first time I checked was in the morning after first coming outside and it didn't show nothing. Then after adding the first few qt's I checked it 2 hours later as I was taking a nap lmao! At this point I was over filling it I assume. I gave the oil enough time every time to settle in.

I always make it a habit of checking my oil after letting the car sit overnight. I've gotten false reading if I don't do that. I don't know what it is with these crazy motors. Glad you got it worked out.

It was dirty and I sprayed it with MAF cleaner and I guess it finally started to give in. It's lasted longer than I expected since it kept getting maxed out before my spark plug change to colder plugs.

wow bro Im glad your good! maybe Tracy should redesign our dip stick? just to say, I check my oil at the gas station when filling, and at 30,+++ miles I haven't had a false reading yet, but at my last oil change my RX catch can was empty.

Yes this has been a posted issue before for many. But never for me, now I'm being extra careful when checking and filling. The dip stick is horrible on these engines.

Yeah I remember reading about this for a few guys. I would think it should be easy enough for Tracy or Matt at RX or Steve at Mace to make. a better dip stick that is.

I don't think the dip stick is the issue....I can't see how it would be. The oil is obviously pooling up someplace else when these false readings are happening.

Who here with a SC or Turbo has been getting that extra lovely power with the winter air? I think everyone but very few like Gretchen has had their car in the winter time after the conversion. I been loving it a lot, car's a torque monster but with this cool air it's insane. I even had the pleasure of beating a stock Vette the other night. Anyone else enjoying it?
