Nice! Wish my project wasnt also my DD, I did a bunch of work on my 98 camaro. Sold it to get the 2012.

Props to you for working on that thing, Freaking engine under the dash, amongst a million other genius ideas the engineers had. Tough to work on. I got tired of it quick. Dropped the trans a couple times, the entire engine/trans/front cradle once.

I was young and stupid, so forgive my cardinal sin of putting SS badges on my v6 (to be fair, it had them when I bought it, but I put them back on after repainting, so im just as much to blame) . Trying to make up for it with my current v8 haha.

Reluctor wheel

With all the talk of stoker kits a couple of days ago, I started looking at them. Could someone explain to me what the reluctor wheel is and what it's purpose? How does size come into play? Thx

The reluctor wheel is the teeth that are T the back of all cranks. The help the crank sensor determine it's location. Ls3's have a 58 teeth x's and the older Ls's had 24x's. If you choose the wrong reluctor wheel then the PCM will not function properly and the car will not start.

So if I'm getting an aftermarket crank can I reuse the stock reluctor or do they generally come with a new one? I see the TSP kit gives the choice for one depending on engine but I have not seen that listed on the couple others I looked at.

You use the one that correlates with your PCM. Not sure if there's any advantage to using a aftermarket one. It's not a performance part, just a reference wheel.

Thx. Not pulling the trigger yet. Just trying to educate myself for future mods. Gonna concentrate on drivetrain before more power. As usual I enjoy reading this thread daily.

Zeke what other machine work needs to be done besides checking the deck and honing the cylinders? Will they have to do a line hone too?
