I actually recommend a 235/55R19 which will work best in snow. You want to keep the tire narrower. Wide tires don't do as well in winter.

Hello Rudy. This thread is very informative. I'm looking for winter tires for my stock 19" wheels. How do the Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires compare to the Scorpion Ice & Snow? There doesn't appear to be a good 19" solution in the Ice & Snow line anymore.

I've actually been leaning towards the Blizzaks. I'm in the Chicago area and am looking for excellent grip. Nowadays we have the DM-V2 at 235/55/19 and the WS80 at 235/50/19 available. Of the 3 models (Scorpion Winter tires included), what would be your recommendation?

hi Rudy. I have a 1LE, but acquired a set of stock 20" rims as well, to run the standard size 245/45 fronts and 275/40 rears for winter tires.

The intent here is to drive in cold weather, but really if there's snow on the ground, in most cases I'll just be keeping it in the garage, so I'm not sure if a dedicated winter tire is my best bet here.

I'd read elsewhere that the BFG G-Force Comp 2 A/S are a good choice, but I don't see them in these sizes on Tirerack. Recommendations?

Second question, regarding the TPS monitors... if I get these installed, my understanding is that I have to bring the car to a dealer to have them reading correctly with the car... will I need to do that again when switching back to my summer wheelset?

For the Camaro I've found the Scorpion Winter seems to work the best in terms of everything overall. They give you about the same winter grip as a Blizzak but handle a little better and seem to wear a little better. If you go with the Scorpion Winter you won't be sory.

The BFG are on backorder now so I would suggest going with the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06. In terms of the sensors unless you buy an $80 dollar trigger tool you will need to go to a shop that has the equipment to trigger the sensors.

Thanks Rudy. I have one more question. I see that Tirerack has some very good prices on the Continental WinterContact Si. Those seem to get some pretty good reviews from a variety of sites, and even Tirerack's testing claims its competitive with the WS80. What is your opinion of the WinterContact Si's, and how they compare to the Blizzaks and the Scorpion Winters?

I hate to be buying based on prices, but let's just say divorces are expensive.

Any suggestions on the cheapest way to get snow tires on my 2010 2SS/RS? I have the stock wheels and brakes. I've thought about just getting snow tires that fit the current wheels, also seen that sometimes you can fit smaller diameter wheels.

I'm looking for suggestions since I know my ex is going to give me a hard time about having our kids in my car.

These are actually a nice sleeper and very competitive. With the current rebate it makes them a nice buy. They get my recommendation.

Just wanted to throw up a post regarding The Sport Edition rims and Blizzack tires I got through tire rack and Rudy. Just about to install them on my 2010 2SS for the third Canadian winter in a row. Everything has worked and lasted beyond expectations. With some proper spring and fall cleaning and waxing the rims look new still. They hHave never left me stuck in some of the worst snow storms and freezing temps. If you're hesitating in purchasing, have no fear.

I have a 2015 Camaro SS with the 1LE package. Do you know if a 19" x 10" rim with a 34 mm offset will fit both the front and rear of this car? The reason I'm asking is that Tirerack currently sells a certain brand/model of wheel only in the "rear fitment" size and the "front fitment size" is no longer available. Due to the low price I'm considering buying this size for the front and rear as winter wheels. Thanks.

Question - I have a stock 2015 SS/RS. I am hoping to do 2 things over the next year, first - remove existing tires on the stock 20" rims, and replace with straight winter tires. I also ideally will like to buy a set of summer 20" wheels, with summer tires depending on life span (I'm not spending $1000 on tires for them to be basically done for @ 10-15k miles)

Every time I want to swap my wheels out (season changes), I have to take it into a dealer to trigger the TPMS sensors? That kinda sucks. How much does a dealer charge to do this?

Having a seperate set of winter and summer wheels+tires is definately the way to go. Will you be purchasing your tires from TireRack? When you do that, the tires are shipped to a local shop in your area (your choice) and then they do the install. In my case I had thm shipped to a local Firestone shop. Firestone has their fee for mounting and balancing, and then to program the TPMS its $5 per tire. Every shop has a different rate, and I've seen some around $8-$12 per tire as well. I think NTB might have been one of the most expensve ones for that service if I recall correctly. Anyway, when the tires first came in, Firestone did the mounting and the balancing. When I looked over the bill afterwards, they didn't charge me anything for the TPMS programming. Just the mounting and balancing. When the season then changed a few months later, I went back to Firestone to swap my winters and summer sets. This time they just charged me a minimal fee to do the swap ($20 total), and once again nothing for the TMPS programming.

So my points are that every shop's rate varies, and you can sometimes do yourself a favor by establishing a relationship with someone other than the Chevy dealer. I've been very happy with the TireRack purchase, and am planning on buying a new set of summers next year through them.

By the way, my wheels are 19's, and I am able to carry all 4 wheels+tires in my Camaro for the trip to and from Firestone. Two on the rear seat, one on the passenger seat, and one in the trunk. These vehicles can be deceivingly big at times.

Rudy, I am about to order my 2018 1LS V6 with the 1LE package. The 1LE package upgrades the front brakes to 4 piston Brembos, and the stock rims to 20 x 8.5 front and 20 x 9.5 rear, with 245/40R20 tires in front and 275/35R20 tires on the rear.

I live in Utah and will need a set of good winter tires. I was hoping to be able to go to with a new set of 18" rims with either 245/50R18, or 225/55R18 Blizzaks for both the front and reaar. I haven't had a lot of luck finding a solid answer regarding whether a set of 18" rims will fit with the upgraded brakes. I was leaning towards something like the Sport Edition P3s from Tirerack, if that helps.

If you are able to help me out with this conundrum, it would be greatly appreciated.
