My dad got a set of scope rings for the 1903a4!! So pumped. Cant wait to actually get them. My grandfather gave my an M1 Carbine the other day. Kind of a mismatch but will be a fun shooter. Hope to get it out tomorrow. It was a GM barrel with a Postal Meter receiver. But still looks damn good.

If you are in a certain career field: Cop, EMS, firefighter, military, pilot and some others I can't think of this may be your best bet:

Those are great prices but you have to be a member for a year.

Otherwise, you will pay around $500 or so for a new one, possibly more.

I haven't bought any 9mm ammo for the wife in a while because I started reloading it for her. The last I remember it was around $12-15 for 50... As far as a .22 goes. There are many good ones out there. You can also buy a .22 kit for a glock I believe. Go to a gun range that rents guns and try several out.

A word of advice, if you get a glock, DO NOT put an extended slide lock on it if you are going to use if for self defense. I found out the hard way that was a bad idea and it will be coming off very shortly. I was involved in an incident and I believe I bumped it up causing the slide to lock back. There is no guarantee that the regular one would not have done it but the slimmer profile minimizes the chances of it happening.

Haha my dad has one. I will get some pics of it later. It has the most beautiful stock. Thinking about keeping it as a collector and buy another one from CMP as a shooter. What category was yours from CMP. Did you buy the highest one of like the fair/ good condition ones?

Gotcha, thanks for the advice on the slide lock. I wonder how much the discount would be, if you have to pay at least $60 for a two year membership... hoping the discount would be worth the $60 but

If you look around in gun shows you won't save that much, maybe $10-$15 at most if any. The problem is the discount I believe is $100 off MSRP. For a gun that MSRP's at $599 that puts the price at $499 plus sales tax. I purchased mine for just a little over $470 plus sales tax without the discount. Plus there is a really small list of dealers that accept the GSSF discount and for me most of the time I would spend more in gas then what I would have saved with the discount.

No, just a regular M1...I purchased a surplus flash suppressor and cheek rest for it. I used some leather saddle dye to change the cheek rest to black. I also got a scope mount from this guy:

http://www.qual-cart.com/m1scope.htm

Drilled and tapped it myself; it was a PITA not screwing it up with how hard that steel is. I then sent it off to get re-parkerized. No way in hell I would do all that to an actual M1C, M1D, or a rare M1 as they are very valuable (I would probably go to hell for doing it)

I purchased a service grade from the Ohio store. It was a Greek lent repatriated m1. The butt stock was not walnut (some lighter wood) and did not fit well so I stripped and stained it walnut and also glass bedded the stock for better fitment.

My Beretta is probably rarer (its a Y2K model with only 2000 made) or my Henry lever action (Boyscout Centennial Edition Golden Boy). But I'd have to say the m1 has a lot more blood and sweat in it. If you plan on getting one from the CMP I would probably get started on it as you never know when they will sell out. Especially since the Obama administration pulled this move:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010...ique-m-rifles/

I'd really love to pick up a M1 carbine sometime
