I'm guessing you're speaking about the LSQ. Do you think it could be safely, and within emission standards, be squeezed/massaged for little higher output?
LWN. . . . . . . . . . . . . .LSQ 181hp@3400. .vs. . .174hp@3500 369tq@2000. . . . . . .281tq@1500 HP is close. But that loss of 0.8L really rears it's head in the torque department.

I doubt we get that. Not with 420 lb-ft @3000 in the 2.7. I think they're just trying to save money on development honestly. Mid size margins aren't as profitable. They want folks in Silverados, not Colorados, if possible. So we get an updated platform, not new as originally planned, and a single engine. Look at what Nissan just did with the Frontier.

The 310hp/420tq of the newest L3B is nice. You think gm will offer a PHEV variant if the 2.3PHEV makes it into Ranger?
It's been leaked that it's output would be in the 270kw/680nm (362hp/501tq) range. Ironically, making this the likely powerplant for Ranger Raptor. All the while the standard Rangers get the Bronco's 2.3L (300hp/325tq) and optional 2.7 (330hp/415tq) in North America anyway. https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...u-need-to-know

GM has all but abandoned hybrids of any kind (Corvette E-Ray being the fringe exception). Shortsighted IMO but I do acknowledge the complexity to build them. They had all they needed with the Voltec powertrain which was brilliant and refined, oh well.
In the meantime they won't have an answer to PowerBoost or this rumored 2.3 PHEV as you mentioned.

Yes, the Voltec had a lot of unrealized promise. Using the newer batteries for more electric miles would help a lot. One of my boys had one for 3-4 years and liked it a lot. A slightly stronger engine setup would have been great for an entry lever coupe sports car. Sorry to see then kill that off.

I hope that having more engine options in Ranger will force GM's hand to do more for the Colorado and Ranger. My assumption is that the 2.7 would only be an option in the Ranger Raptor. If that's not the case, and they offer the 2.7 in other trims, then GM had better get smart and at the very least, off the H.O. version of their 2.7 in other trims besides the ZR2....assuming they don't use a TTV6 engine in the ZR2.
But yes, the PHEV Ranger sounds pretty sweet to me. I would be interested in a setup like that...as I don't see myself wanting a full EV for many years yet. But who knows. Apparently, the PHEV Ranger is at least a few years off though. There is a member on one of the Colorado forums who lives near where GM does their testing in Colorado and he swears he's seen the Colorado camo'd test trucks plugged in to a charger alongside the Hummer. But it's pretty hard to put faith in that when literally all other sources say all we are getting is the 2.7.

The same source also swore he saw engineers filling one of them with diesel too.
