Ready to ship ?? wow! most Companies take months sometimes years in R+D before releasing a product...it sound like your rushing it... looks like a train wreck ready to happen. it will be very interesting to see how many guinea pigs you get to do this experiment.

I wouldn't say he's rushing it. He made the OP in January of 2012, and he'd already been running the lights on his personal car. He's spent over a year trying to find a way to mass produce a design/concept he already created.

Where is this hate on Tony coming from? He has been working on this and testing for quite awhile to make sure he has a great product. Tony has been very open with progress and issues. Many people have seen his prototypes in person.

I'm referencing the pics in the OP. If you look at them, particularly the lit part of the "afterburners", you can see that the outer edge is uneven, and where those uneven parts line up, you can see a thin line going from the outside in. I'm having a difficult time explaining, but I at least think it's pretty obvious when looking at the pics?

This one? ![]() or this one? ![]() I mean I don't know all the details about what problems Tony's running into, but from what I can tell it seems like the issues are more on getting parts/materials than the actual lights. But you're right, prototype testing will probably need to be done. That being said - I'm sure members' would fight over the chance to have one of his prototypes. |

In the first pic mentioned, specifically. You can also see it in the bottom pic. It looks like the afterburner light is pieced together. The bottom of the ring of light is not smooth, and then you can actually see what seem to be "pieces" of light. I'm not going crazy, am I?

Maybe you are referring to the flutes in the outer portion? Four channels that run front to back. If so, these mirror the same features found in the headlights and DRL's.

Yo if you don't have a deposit on these, step out of the thread. These aren't rushed he's obviously taking his time and making sure they are proper before shipping. He also hasn't given a specific date so you really can't be mad.

I am pig #7, and glad to be in on this. I just know that Tony wants to have us decide on options like flicker, so here's my best answer based on what we've seen so far - If the flicker has any point in time where it goes dark, I'll skip it and go simple. IMHO, when the tails go dark, suddenly it doesn't look like afterburners any more, it looks like a ditzy girl randomly blinking her eyes. Not sure in real life whether you can see this detail, but it does seem to be better to have the outer diffuser be irregular rather than smooth. A real afterburner WOULD have "pieces" of light - it would not be perfect. Turn on a gas stove burner - check out the pieces of light as it flickers and burns. Tony's statement that he modeled it after the fluting in the DRL/fogs makes sense, too.

Well, the replacement fixtures were bad in a different way.
Going to assemble one set using what we have to see how everything lines up. I really don't want to have to wait another week to finish this, but, if it's not right... |
