With some time and experience those numbers will lower.

Hell, there is a video on Youtube claiming (Chevy?) 11's on the 1/4 mile.

I believe that evidence is such the fact the Z28 Camaros were the "baddest" and the "best" of Camaros on the Trans Am circuit is a long settled issue and not seriously subject to debate. Having the highest horsepower and fastest straight line acceleration does not mean that a vehicle will perform well on a Trans Am circuit course.

Different enthusiasts will put different emphasis on comparing different aspects of a car's performance. Each aspect is legitimate. Some may be more concerned with straight line acceleration, while others may be more concerned with handling and drivability. Straight line acceleration is not the only benchmark against which today's performance vehicles are measured. Today's performance vehicles are measured by how well they excel in all areas of performance.
Again, I believe that we're not on topic. It is an academic point as to which camaro was the top model in any period. It is still debatable as to whether the z28 was regarded as camaro's top perfomer because of several other camaro models of the period with equal or faster acceleration times (Racing series such as Trans Am had specific displacement requirements that precluded other cars with engines larger than 305 cu in.). The Z28's performance was measured in acceleration times, and compared with its rivaling pony cars of the period. It really isn't about what you (or what I) believe. The majority of the publications that compared the camaro models with its competition placed an emphasis on 0-60 and quarter mile times.

It is true that today's cars place more of an emphasis on other areas of performance. However, acceleration is still a major aspect of performance that most sports cars are judged by.

there are plenty of cars that are amazing handling cars that people love that are not the fastest quarter mile in the class. M3, 911's, etc

How would BMW sell an M3 if drag times were the most important thing to someone who wants a sports car.

The ZL-1 will be a better balance of muscle and sports car than the GT500. The GT500 will be a better muscle car than a ZL-1.

the same way a 458 italia is a better blend of sports car than a ZR-1 but a ZR-1 is way more muscle car than 458. people just like bickering these days more than driving I think. these cars are all just so awesome no a days but people who drive them are so bias they can't see that there are allmost always strenghts and weeknesses to every car.

If you throw enough money at it, you can make a brick run in the 10's too.
but then its nolonger a brick.

I want to see a fast time using ONLY what it came with from the Factory.

I just hate the "a guy on the internet ran 10s and I have the same mods so I have a 10 sec. car". Great car BTW!
Well, fact is he most likely does have a 10 sec car if mods are the same.

The problem is....he may very well not be a 10 sec driver.

Back to topic,I'm really not concerned at this point with what the ZL1 runs. If no one matches/exceeds GM's published times within a month though,we may have a problem.

I do find it a bit strange that Lingenfelter didn't post a stock time, just a modded one. You know they ran the car stock at least a couple times to get a feel. But,after seeing the backlash from the Hennessey thread,I don't blame them for not posting a stock time.

I agree we have to discuss the competition.

But, arguing the race with the ZL1 against the yet to be released GT500 is ridiculous. Lets not forget while speculating, should Chevrolet simply decide to release the next installment of the ZL1 with a blown LS7 it would have about 200hp more than the yet to be released GT500.

Road and Track (?) put out a Youtube video titled "Shelby GT500 crushes Camaro SS". Even in the video it mentions how unfair the race is. They raced them because they were both brands "top car" at that moment. Yet, the SS keeps right with the GT500 through first and second (and in my opinion it looks like the Camaro driver blew the shift to third.) Of course the Mustang won, but our naturally aspirated Camaro was hardly crushed considering the Mustang was supercharged.

My only point is... let the ZL1 race the currently released GT500. That's a fair match up.

Next years predators can battle next year.
