Have you been looking at chairs & HANS? All kidding aside, that's where I'd like to see you invest in more safety.
Funny you mention that... I'm looking hard at the Recaro Pro Racer Hans SPA XL... just trying to find a decent price... that dude is pricey... I'll take the none kevlar version, but they don't recommend the non kevlar version for my size people... you wanna drive Brandi for me??? iokno...

I'm also going to Simpson shortly after I get home to get fitted for a Hans device and have it fitted to my helmet... We also ordered a 10 lb fire bottle system, multiple nozzles, pass comp and engine bay...

Do they make them in sizes? Or build to fit?

It might even allow a much thinner oil, and the oil should be kept cleaner, no combustion products in the oil..etc etc
I'm sure the system would need a cooler of some sort though

In a rear mount, or where an engine oil supply isnt easy to achieve...I can see the appeal of a dedicated oil system for the turbos.

But the engine supply is well tried and tested, everyone knows it works.

If you were to do a standalone, I would definitely be monitoring pressure in the supply line, and if this fell below a certain level, it would cause engine shutdown. Otherwise if the pump was to fail, you'd soon destroy the turbos.

Yes the pump can fail on a scavenge only system...but you'd soon be aware of this by the plumes of smoke out the back. No catastrophic turbo damage should occur though

Really...cant see any major reasons to say dont do it though.
Robert/Steve...thank-you very much. I'll update when my friend get to making progress. He's old school and a complete do-it-yourselfer hands on guy, but "I don't do computers". At this point it's a single turbo, rear mounted on a LT-1...subject to change.

It's still cheaper than a 24 hr hospital stay...

I would drive her, but I hear she's in love with a sailor that gave her a locket

Tim, I'm guessing you would use the same one I do... big... XL... they do make sizes but a 34 inch waist is the cut off... Your shoulder chest area wont fit in the reg ones.. These fit tight...
Best bet is to sit in one somewhere...

Sounds like a plan, Good luck and keep us informed... I'm going dry sump for my motor, I'm thinking same thing on a smaller scale for the turbos,

I dont think with a dry sump there would really be any point, unless a standalone setup actually made installation easier.

Just use a scavenge pump with a stage to do the scavenging from the turbos. It will remove the need entirely for the electric pump.

Robert you are my brother so I'll say it like I would to my brother. Get your head out of your *** and open your wallet to protect what makes you you, your BRAIN... as small as they are for people that love to race ;-) After all the blood sweat and tears you have poured into this project nothing less than the absolute best (read lightest and strongest helmet and HANS) will do.

My heart to yours my friend.

Uh, I don't know if maybe you just mis-read something in this thread but...he is. I'm pretty sure safety is the ONE thing he HASN'T skimped on in any way, if you could even claim he has skimped on anything with this car. See below:

He's got a 10 point roll cage.
He's got a parachute.
He's going to have a racing seat with a 5-point race harness.
He's got a full fire suit with balaclava.
He's going to have a fire suppression system.
He's got an appropriately approved helmet for a motor-vehicle (not a motorcycle helmet)
He's getting fitted for a HANS device.

What else am I missing that he needs to get his head out of his ass for?

Pete, I hear you and I'm doing just that... I do hav the best of everything I have and am adding to that. My Simpson helmet is premuim quality.

The seat I'm looking at is the Recaro above, which is their premium piece... Are you suggesting something else as you know I will certainly take any thing you suggest to heart.. I've looked a couple of the all metal seats from two different manufacturers...

I think it was the way I mentioned the price of the Recaro that may have been the mis-guidance... I am going with something that will cost a small fortune but will be worth each and every penny... I'm just looking for the best option, and that is like cars, always dependent on whom you are speaking with...

Kirkey and another company make super incredible all metal seats.. the Recaro is a carbon fiber kevlar unit with lots of padding and all the certs you could ask for... In addition to the floor mounts, there is the ability to bolt the seat back to the cross bar of the roll cage right at the shoulder area...

I'll do a bit more research and listen to learned people and make a determination...

Brother Pete, Thanks and I'm waiting for any suggestions you have to offer along the lines above or other suggestions...

So, I got a note from Corey, that I found humorous...

He was talking to All Pro about heads for a TT CTSV being built at the shop, and mentioned the same heads I am getting for my new motor....

Bob told him, those heads are for cars making 2000-3000 hp, and that the 67/66 turbos being used for the CTSV wouldn't fill them... Corey paused, and I can only imagine the look on his face... and then moved on...

To say it's slowly becoming real to me is a gross understatement... hence, the addition of new and grossly adequate safety equipment...

I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, I will needs depends when I make a pass at the mile in this car... No doubt she'll be peppy... so. If I ever mention I'm not nervous about getting in it after this new motor is in place... call me a liar to my face and slap the crap out of me, cause I'll be asleep or I'll have not understood the question...

I still will have the last licensing pass, and will sneak up on that... hopefully that will be in two passes... since it'll be close to a year since I've driven the car by then... and then we will creep the speeds up and see what we see... It's going to be interesting and I know i'll be nervous as hell... wobbly knees, sweaty palms and all...

Pete, I still remember the conversation we had about my goals with this car... Still chasing them... Come on October...
