That's mainly because the red one has been rewired in order to work as rear fog light

yeah, most euro cars (or cars sold in europe) have a rear fog light - due to foggier conditions??.

But they typically will only have one reverse (white) light and one red (fog).

Also, some rear fog lights are integrated into the taillight cluster, which is why when you see some BMW's at night, it looks like they have a light out. Really its just their tail lights are on and the rear fog is on...
