Isn't ONSTAR satellite based?

Correct for the most part...but it may use local cell phone towers for some functions...

OnStar works were your phone won't. I've found OnStar to work in the middle of New Mexico where my cell phones had no service. 3 Watts is a lot of capability.

Also OP, how exactly do you take this do mean GM thinks you are stupid? I am really curious as to what your reasoning is for that.

Yeah, whats the big deal with using the sealant. Its a temporary fix like the spare tire tire is on most vehicles. TPM's aren't very expensive and can be easily replaced when and if your flat can be fixed if you use the sealant. Who cares if it throws off the balance a little-- you shouldn't go long distances when you use the sealant kit anyway. If the tire can be fixed and not replaced it shouldn't be damage by a short distance out of balance. Funny thing is I see so many people while on duty who try to change a flat tire and they never remember to service their spare tire SO guess what? YEP , they put it on and its FLAT TOO... BOY THAT SURE HELPED ALOT!
It was in the literature when we all looked at buying these cars ya shoulda known what was up. As for me, I will take my chances with what GM has provided.

I'm the same. But, "touch wood", I haven't had a flat for years now. Most of my cars are sold on with a perfectly unused spare in the boot. I think they do give one peace of mind though, particularly if you live in the middle of nowhere, and completely shred a tyre.

I must be stupid to have thought the price I paid for this Camaro included something so basic as a spare tire and jack.
The Challenger comes minus a spare and a jack as well or you can buy it for $100. You get some kind of foam filling device instead (like I'd use that and ruin a tire). So don't feel stupid.

Don't feel stupid. It's an honest mistake, despite what people say here about it being in the literature it's one of those things that can easily be over looked. Esp with the excitement of buying this awesome car, I myself didn't think about it till days after.

The only blame you can place on GM/chevy is maybe they should of put a higher priority on the event of tire failure and what the consumer will go through. But that's about it, because there are options available.

With that said, I pray I never have to find out first hand. Tires for this car are hard to find and prob next to impossible if you need them immediately. The fix a flat stuff it comes with should be fine for anything but larger holes or blowouts. If it's the latter you won't be making it to your destination for a while.

Now excuse me, I have to stop being an idiot and go put the air compressor and fix a flat back in my trunk and not on the workbench in my garage.

I don't care if I have a spare or not, because I won't be changing it if I get a flat. I will be calling road side service. I couldn't change a tire to save my life. LOL So its no big deal to me.

when I ordered my 2010 2lt in may 09 i was given a choice. I have the 19 in wheels. I opted for the spare tire. i haven't had to use it yet. but I did get a screw in my tire. had it fixed before it became a problem. go back and buy a spare.

My Camaro SS and Pontiac G8 GT did not come with a spare or a jack but they have the air kit and sealer. I ran over a allenwrench and got a flat in the G8 I used the sealer but it made the tire jump all over the place and I ended up replacing the tire.
When I took the G8 into the dealer for an oil change I was going to replace the small can but I was told it is $40.00.

It ought to be optional for all models but is not for the bigger dia rims/tires. I would not mind, to bad anyway, paying extra for it. That way those who wish to remain spare less, would not have to pay for those of us who don't. Its an engineering issue the size of spare tire storage hole.
