I've already said four times that there were year to year differences. Oh and I don't give a single **** what Tom says as my information comes directly from the ECM GM tuned. |

I brought up the drag limit because a stock Z06 really proably won't go 205 so it has a speed limiter past it speed limit. Fastest I have ever seen a video of stock Z06 was 202 on is speedo and hud. I know understand why most people belive there is not limiter on the Z06 because without mods you not really going to get to its limit.

Yep.....the ECM "speed limiter" numbers mean nothing, as the Z06/ZR1 are drag limited. Once you're modded and can exceed the stock Vmax numbers, it doesn't matter what the original program value is/was as it's also changed in the tune.
It's a moot point to for anyone to continue to arguing the point.

How many times do I need to say that there was a range of speed limiters across the productions years? In any case you are 100% wrong as you said there were no limiters period and the fact that others didn't know means nothing. The numbers I litsed were at some point correct as they were taken from stock tunes written by GM on actual cars. And I don't give a **** about all your drag limitations as that was not the debate from square one. It was simply about the fact that they have a electronic speed limiter and that was all. |

I hate to revive an old thread....but I went to the 1/8th mile drags tonight with a friend. 1/8 is the only thing we get here. He drive my C6Z06 and I drove my bone stock L99.
It just so happened a red ZL1 showed up...... We hung with the Zl1, a H&C Gen4 Camaro, and a maggie charged camaro. -My Z06 (stock power with nitto 555s and race seats) ran 7.3s-7.5s (faster with AC off I told him, but it was warm in staging) -The ZL1 (stock M6) consistenly ran 8.6s-8.8s (with the launch thing?) -The Gen4 Camaro Vert (a4) ran 8.3s-8.4s (Nitto DRs) -My L99 (the big Chubby) couldn't break 9....9.01 was fastest with .22 r/t, car seemed to stop pulling half way down....I thought I was going to break the throttle pedal, I was pushing so hard. -The Maggie Camaro ran 8.1-8.2. But the most impressive thing I saw was a Whipple charged SVT Lightning 2002 Ford Truck......ran 7.2s....that thing was cool....and beat the Z06...found myself wanting an SVT lightning. Now all the drivers had varying experience, but nobody complained about traction. After seeing the difference in the Z06/ZL1 time its hard to imagine the how the ZL1 could ever overcome the weight disadvantage, so its not even an argument. I tried to take video but its hard when you're driving and when I skipped a round.....there was too much glare as the end of track faced the sun. It was a good deal though...$20...as many runs as you can get in 3.5 hours. |

Personally, I think the ZL1 would be lucky to beat a C5 Z06, let alone a C6 Z06 with 100hp more!

As I explained so well to my lovely wife, the ZL1 is PRACTICAL. Four seats means I can still carry the kids anywhere they need to go and if we need to go shopping, no problem. Still room for bags and bags of shoes and both of us! Plus those Corvettes are soo standoutish. If I drive the ZL1, most regular folks just see a Camaro (that may have been a bit of a stretch). What's so different about owning a Camaro? Is a Z06 faster, you bet. Get over it or get one.

Let's see, how many ponys does my ZL1 need to equal the power to weight of my old Z06? Looks like 654!

If thats true, GM are getting confused with their vehicle segment range.
