THE BOTTOM LINE IS if you want to consider yourself a good / talented driver, then learn how to DRIVE YOUR car! Don't learn gimmicks, especially ones off the TV / movies (unless you're watching credible auto shows), they will do you no more good than downloading someone else's dyno sheet...

That same driver I mentioned in the CRX is one of only 3 people that has had me holding on for dear life in a car (when I wasn't driving ). The other two were his friend (also an autocrosser with several victories) with -I kid you not- a 10 second, probably 600-700 hp '93'ish vette. I was yapping about how much I loved my "bad-ass" modded TT stealth when he had apparently heard enough. At the bottom of the freeway on ramp at about 70 mph he floored it, and broke the rear end loose in a blaze of glory sliding all over the place to well over 100 mph.

The other was my friend in his 1st gen early 80's RX7 with a full race cage, some suspension, & sticky tires. You could drink your lawsuit inducing hot McDonald's morning coffee under full throttle without a lid with no worries, but if he turned your internal organs would swap places. On a curvy back road he gave me a full demonstration of it's capabilities and I had never been more scared in a car in my life. I was fully, entirely expecting us to crash (badly) at every single corner and even did the unthinkable & asked him to SLOW DOWN!!! Which he only smiled at His actual driver ability was nothing spectacular compared to normal (I had rode with him in several other vehicles, & he was normally quite a goofball, probably why I wound up crying slow down) but he knew that car very well, knew what it was capable of and did well with it.

However, both of those purpose built cars and their good drivers can not compare to this little CRX. Sure, I was not as shocked as the vette, or crying scared in the old RX7, but this mostly stock (only mods were normal aftermarket wheels & tires and an intake, remember 83 hp) CRX behind the hands of this driver was the most IMPRESSIVE ride I've ever had. That poor little car was probably only good for about .8-.9 g in any one direction (accel, brake, turn L R), but he had it at that max, all the time, the entire time. I wasn't scared for a second, that had absolutely nothing to do with scared or out of control, it was the amazing amount of speed he was able to muster with complete and total control at the very limit that made that the most impressive. Knowing how much did with what little of car he had I couldn't believe it.

Get to know your car, take driving lessons if you can afford it (I hope to someday, you can always learn), go to local autocrosses, take her to the drag strip, go to a track day, find an empty parking lot & learn the balance of the car. Just don't beat on her too badly if you plan on keeping her for a long time. The rewards from that will be the best performance enhancing "modification" you can possibly get out of your car, unless you are already well trained or just graced with unbelievable natural talent.

Of course, this is coming from a "driver" kind of guy. If you prefer "wax(ing) & watch(ing)" over getting her dirty driving then more power to ya, go buy some "looks good!'s", wax her & send me the picts! I need a new pict to trump this C6 Z06 for my background!

/end "double clutching" rant

ya, it bugs me...

The 1-4 skipshift is hardly noticeable. I've test driven a couple of 4th gen Trans Ams that had it and it never intruded on my driving experience. You just have to stay in first gear when driving slowly in a parking lot or school zone. Stay in first gear and lightly gas it, the skipshift light comes on briefly at around 1300-1500 RPM, and then it disappears and your free to shift into second.

My 95 vette had the skip shift. My 08 has it too. I only ever hit it in parking lots.

SLP has a simple eliminator for $30. It's the same one used on the GTO, G8, and Corvette. Plugs right in.

I just came in from a great day of driving (2nd day total) and came to the forums looking for info about this. I had no idea that it is on my car and no idea what it even is...until now. It has been a long time since I've had a stick.

However, I only found it when I was driving in rush hour traffic and between close stop lights also in traffic. It is new and a little odd but easy to get around. Just like any other stick, there is a (fun) learning curve.

I just took my eliminator off the 4th gen this weekend. It was the first thing I did to my 4th gen and will be the first thing I do to my 5th gen when I get it (supposedly today or tomorrow?)

The same day I take it home it will be goin in. I was surprised by the skip shift in the middle of an intersection in my 4th gen with an oncoming truck ready to t-bone me. I punched the gas (to get out of skip-shift condition) while making a left turn and broke the rear end loose. Scary considering the car was only three weeks old at the time. I'm not taking a chance like that with my new baby.

I'd rather pay $30 dollars to remove it then to not have it all and possibly pay a gas-guzzler tax.

Shifting from 1 to 4 is harder on the engine.

Maybe you like Skip Shift? Keep it then and don't disable.

As far as the automatic I was just asking a question if they where doing it with the auto or not.

Skip shift is the biggest non issue ever. How in the world are you guys driving where this is a problem. I never have a problem with this. You do know you can avoid it without disabling it?
