3 pages and nobody mentions it? The GT had the Track Pack, which helped it in the Motor Trend comparo, too. And the Ford sucked them in with handling. Wait 'til there's a comparable Camaro; then we'll see. I like all 3.

Of course the car company wants to test their best model tier with the best options for performance. GM and Chrysler would do the exact same thing.

However, I'm really interested in the numbers that a Mustang with IRS (at the same weight) or a Camaro at the same weight as the Mustang. The numbers are really close with the weight differences so I wonder how it'd look if they were the same weight. Just to see how it compares, but we'll never know.

Regardless, I don't know how you can try and dog the Mustang for having great handling and traction. That's one of the key components of a car.

1 word for that: Pedders! Pedders > track pack

In another thread (there's more Mustang threads than Camaro threads lately around here) it's mentioned time and again but somehow it's brushed off as acceptable, even if it's not an available option yet on any GT.

You'll have to find a new complaint soon, as the Track Pack is an available option on June 1, 2009.

That said, one thing I noticed is in their "points" scale some of the places where the mustang scored higher than the camaro doesn't completely make sense, such as their stupid "gotta have it" where the mustang scored a 22/25 vs the Camaro's 21/25? From what I have seen by the general public and pretty much everywhere, the Camaro is the Gotta have it car today.. so this could be considered my opinion, but the camaro should have scored a 24 or 25. Other things like exterior styling, which i know is subjective, but going by every other comparison test out there, they all say the Camaro is a looker, the mustang is..well another mustang. So While the mustang won by their "points" scale, I don't beleive it should have won by as much as it did.I guess a lot of people are just getting their panties in a bunch because Car and Driver didn't agree with EVERY other comparison out there. But who cares.. Pick the car you want and buy it. They all have their strong points and are all great cars..that said, Camaro it is for me!
I agree the camaro is a 25/25 gotta have it car based on all the pre-orders and people drooling as you drive around.. The Mustang's gotta have it moment is long gone, even with the re-design.. The Challenger looks more unique than the Mustang as well since there are so few on the road..

But if you look at the 0-100mph and 0-140mph times you can see that the Camaro SS dominates the Mustang GT. Once you get above 60mph, the Camaro SS just walks away from the Mustang.

Camaro SS, 0-100mph = 10.7 sec
MustangGT, 0-100mph = 12.3 sec

Camaro SS, 0-140mph = 22.3 sec
MustangGT, 0-140mph = 34.2 sec
I don't think anyone is disputing that the SS is the fastest, it clearly is. C&D is just saying that the Mustang is a better all around car. There's a lot more to a car than it's acceleration times. I suggest that everyone go back and read the entire article again and see if you can argue their points. Well except for the "gotta have it" hehe, and that didn't make that much difference in the final scoring.

Yes, but in the article they (Car and Driver) makes a special point to tell its readers that the Camaro's 0-60mph time is"only a 10th better than the Mustang, which has 111 fewer horsepower."

But when referring to the 1/4 mile times offered by the Camaro, all Car and Driver can say is "still the Camaro was quicker through the quarter-mile."

Yet the Camaro was 6 tenths and 6 mph faster through the 1/4 mile. That's a huge performance difference.

It's obvious to me that Car and Driver took every opportunity to hype up the Mustang GT over the Camaro. That's my take on the entire article.

Nah, that 'never' happens.

Good observation. I see the car mags as 'arms dealers'. As long as folks are trading old cars for new and brand X to brand Y, they are making money. So you always see them hype something.

At the end of the day -All American Muscle cars are like cousins! we can all talk trash on each other smack each other around but still respect one the other for the spirit of the cars! Until someone from outside of the family comes in and talks smack! I think its important at least for me to remember that as much as I bash the other car(s) I remember that they are being threatened by foreign cars. Any time I see a Dodge/Ford/Chevy go up against a foreign car I hope it kicks it's @$$! I love taking pride in American motors! All 3 companies were getting the trash beat out of them by foreign cars and All 3 of our beloved muscle pony cars went away (some longer than others) and now are back and something we can all share the joy in together!

But that's just my take on it! Come to the dark side we have cookies!

Hmm.. I didnt think the Mustang won any comparos. Let alone a unanimous choice.

Wonder what will happen with the 5.0L?
