I'm betting a Magnaflow X would clean that sound up

Very loud and raspy.

With a resonated X, maybe not too shabby, but still pretty damn loud. lol

I've listened to many vids of v6 exhaust with aftermarket systems and also straight pipes. But I think yours is the only one that I think truely resembles the deep low rumble of a V8. I think it has allot to do with going with the set made for V8's which has the larger diameter ends.
I think that making the diameter of the ports larger on the stock diffuser would be the best and least costly solution, but don't let them melt it or it's too late.

Edit: watched them over again and they aren't that bad, and now I hear the "rasp" in the reving video.

I'm being critical because I'd probably end up with them on my 2012 LS if the vids were better. If you watch the vids on youtube of the Borla sustems, those are great video demonstrations.

There is lots of other Youtube demos of Pype bombs on various V6's Mustangs but none of them had the V8 spec. set which you used (and none of them sounded as good as yours either).

I lived in MD. for 3 years so I know there are some good country roads to do that on, do the vids over again.

BTW, how much do the stock mufflers weigh compared to them? I know this info is somewhere in the stickies but I'd find it convenient if somebody would post it here. Right now those big trash cans hanging down on the bottom of my LS are begging to be IN the trash can.

Stock cans are 25lbs each! Most aftermarket cans run 10lbs apiece, netting you a 30lb weight loss.

Thumbs up

The Pype system seems to weigh about 10 pounds. Its pretty light. I am probably saving about 50lbs. I love the sound of the system. I think sound preference is going to change from owner to owner. I wanted my sound to be louder. I listen to a lot of peoples aftermarket exhaust and I wonder why they changed from stock. It almost sounds exactly the same as it did before. Every day I pull my car out I get at least 5 positive comments on the sound of my car. Sorry but my neighbor is an SS guy and he even asked where did I get my exhaust done because it sounds awesome. Which left me wondering does he realize the badging on my car says RS! I also checked the diffuser and I dont see any visible melting. I suspect if I really get under there I have probably got a little minimal melting where it slightly touches the top of the hole. after 2+ weeks I have to say it again . The best $266.00 I ever spent. This was my cheapest mod for the amount of attention, praise and satisfaction I have received! Now Im off to get my radio and dash kit thrown in today!

If you pull off the diffuser, the hooks in the center got a death grip on them, the outers not so bad, 2 of my centers broke off. Not worried cause there is still plenty of support, you might want to squirt some liquid soap on it before you pull it off (no pun intended).

So keep us posted on your cross pipe addition, I think that is how I'll go but I'm an "oil changer". I, and many others would appreciate tips on the whole system when it's done and the rasp problem is gone. From my observations, the cross pipe would be added just past the Cats, in that case, wouldn't this end up a "cat-back"?

If you are going to pull the diffuser...I'd just pull the whole rear bumper. Its super easy to do and will make the diffuser removal easier.

Steps 3 - 7:

Otherwise if you don't want to do that, here are tips for doing just the diffuser:

So what is the best exhaust set up for the V6 and how am I supposed to know unless i hear every possible combo???..i have a 2010 2LT RS and i put JBA shortys and MBRP cat back exhaust when i first got her ...along with a Air aid intake and a custom trifecta tune. It sounds alright but its has a high pitched rasp sometimes...does not sound like that should be coming from a camaro. Other times its nice and low. In the cabin its nice and low but when i floor it you can hear the rasp...now im kinda stuck with my catback exhaust dont want to keep spendng $$$, but i guess i can always change out the mufflers...but which ones??...im at a loss...anybody have suggestions??
