I have a son in Kindergarten. He is my only child. What happened today is horrible. I am going to do my best to support the families involved in this.

Same here, Supercharged - prayers for all you Newtown folks. I was born in Danbury and lived on Old Hawleyville Road in Bethel 'til I was 10. Just terrible.

I read earlier this morning about that a chinese man ALSO attacked 23 children with a knife. It was headlining until this tragedy struck. I do find it ODD that there are many knife attacks and school masscres in china. Why? Gun control.

Really? I mean Really? This stuff was never heard of 20 years ago. Never. So If you look through history how is todays kids different then previous generations? Simple answer. Todays parents are just flat out lazy to parent. Parents are stressed, tired etc. More worried about being friends with there kids then being a damn parent. Its easier to shove a tv or video game in there face then it is to go out and play ball, go to the park, etc. These kids learn all this crap in the imaginary world of the tv, movies (and the biggest culprit) video games. Am I a perfect parent NO. But I raise my kids to know whats right and wrong, I whoop theyre butt when its warranted and I make sure what they watch on tv video etc is fit for them to watch. I'm honest with them and teach them the same way I was raised. That is to have MORALS.

Its a sad situation for all involved. My heart and prayers go out to all of them.

Ok I'm going to get blasted for this but I really don't give a damn. I'm a 28 year police officer assigned to a school. If this happens in my school I'm probably going to be the first one taken out, it goes with the job. For my two and a half cents we've got too many damn fools with guns. Second amendment not withstanding. And don't give me that BS about if I had my gun I would have taken him out. How many of us out there have ever taken a human life or are trained to do so? Remember my friends the body won't go where the brain has not trained it to.

I'm sick to death with all this killing and fighting and jealously. When is this going to stop? Hell we can't even send our little babies to school to learn and become productive citizens. Read the bible people it ain't gonna get any better.

2 Chronicles 7:14

New International Version (NIV)

14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

I cannot say anything that has not already been said, prayers go out to the parents and family affected.

Lets not turn this into any kind of debate, it will not change what has happened. Could it have been prevented, possibly, but it is already done. Can we prevent this from happening again, possibly, but where do we start? I have my own opinions, but respecting myself, I will keep them to myself.

What burns my butt, is that the suspect took his own life instead of sticking around and facing the conseqences for what he has done, and not seeing the suffering he has caused. Like it has already been said, if you want to take your life, then take your own and leave everyone else alone.

Supercharged, our thoughts go out to you and your community. I too was almost in tears reading about this today, knowing all too well the absolute emptiness you feel when you learn of a family member taken too soon. I hope to never know the feeling of one of my children taken too soon.

As for the debates that are sure to come of this, it was not the guns, it was not god's will, it was not the media, it was not video games, it was not movies and it was not bad parenting. It was mental illness and cowardliness. It was possibly a combination of the other things but at the end of the day 26 innocent kids and educators are no longer with us, and it is because of a coward to afraid to just kill himself that he had to make a name for himself by killing small children and teachers.

Do not give him the title "killer" he only deserves the name coward. I hope that there is some form of afterlife where he will get what he deserves and the young ones taken will get much better than they were dealt.

My heart breaks for this community tonight. It has been ripped from tranquility into reality and reality is all too often an ugly place.

We need to teach everyone that this situation can happen anywhere at any time. No place on Earth is immune to insanity, our best defense is pro-activity as parents and aggressive responses by those who happen to find themselves in the middle of a situation like this.

I will probably get responses that say you never know how you will react when faced with a situation like this. That is true, you never do know, but the first step towards the correct reaction it to realize that you can find yourself in this type of situation. I have faced sudden attacks in combat and have found that after mental preparation, the next best thing you can do for yourself and others (like your children, spouse, etc) is to train them to be observant of what is going on around them, to always have a plan. Always look for ways out of every room/area you enter, make that plan in your head. Whether your first reaction is self-preservation (escape) or offensive aggression (counter-attack) at least you have a reaction.

Until we stop these before they happen, or severely limit the "success" of these attacks, and call these individuals cowards, vice killers, there will be more and more of these types of attacks.

I hope the people of Newtown, CT find some way to mourn, but I know they have a long, no, I take that back, a never-ending road ahead of them and it is for them that I shed tears.

Regards,
George
