"Quarter-mile performance is totally awesome as well, as the GT500 makes its best pass in 12.4 seconds at 114.7 mph. That's not only a useful margin over the '07 car with its 500-hp powertrain, which did the deed in 12.8 seconds at 112.6 mph, but it also makes the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger look like weak-ass sissies. The Camaro turned the quarter in 13.0 seconds at 110.9 mph and the Challenger did 13.9 seconds at 103.2 mph. The Challenger SRT8 does it in 13.2 seconds at 107.5 mph."

So with 370rwhp the camaro runs 0.6 and 3.8mph slower than the 511rwhp GT500...

Is it just me, or do those #'s not add up? Understand different cars, different test venues, different weather conditions for both dyno and track times etc...but speaking in "general" terms, shouldn't 141rwhp gain you something more than 0.6 and 3.8mph in the 1/4? The MPH is especially troubling. I know the mustang has recorded better #'s in other magazines etc, but staying within the same site/magazine to me is more accurate a comparison than picking just the fastest times only.

Discuss...
Acceleration curves are not linear, meaning a car with 2000 HP cannot run a 1/4 mile in zero seconds. However, the biggest issue is traction on cars faster than 13 second quarter milers. Often the hi-HP cars are not at WOT until sometime during second gear. Put drag radials on that GT500 and you will see 11's all day long.

So we can discuss "Chevy Camaro vs. Chevy Camaro" in this thread (Comparison of Chevy Camaro versus its competition). Go police somewhere else, adults are talking here.

The Mustang was out for three years before the Camaro in the mid 60's. The Mustang was a square looking car and the Camaro was rounder. Chevy did an excellent job of making a car people would want, and did not copy one thing from Ford, except to build on the phylosophy of the type of car it should be.

History repeats itself. Ford was first with the New Mustang, and Camaro was second. The Mustang is square, and the Camaro is a much rounder car.

One very big difference is that Ford has Carrol Shelby, Jack Roush, Saleen, Steeda, etc, etc. AND they are making money.

And Chevy pretty much as rolled out a breathtaking car all on their own WHILE getting ready to declair bankruptcy.

No doubt in my mind, that once the playing field is level, and Chevy gets the Z28 into production, it will be the same as it was in the 60's.

At the drag strip and on the road courses, Chevy will once again beat the snot out of Ford.

I was at the drag stips during this time, and i saw it again and again. Engine for engine, Chevy motors where the dominating factor in Stock, Super Stock, Modified Production, Gas, Altered and even in Pro Stock in the early days.

I can still remember when Bill Jenkins came out with a small block chevy in Pro stock and the big Blocks struggled to keep up.

Chevrolet is not always the first to do something, but usually they are there at the end and more often than not, dominate.

That would be true if GM produced a Z/28 but we can't compare a modded car with a factory car.

If you compare HP and ET's the GT 500 Mustang is the winner over the Camaro.

BUT, if you compare apples to apples, then the Camaro SS beats out the Mustang GT and that is the only measuring stick that is fair.

Everything else is personal taste.

I'm sorry but this is just as irritating as when Mustang guys say "OH, WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR!" I know you're not claiming it as 100% fact, but still, I'd say we should wait and see before making any claims.

If you're not on top, you're not on top. We have to wait and see what happens but I don't think it's a great idea to assume anything.

not a completely fair measuring stick considering the camaro SS is more expensive than a GT as well, although not as much.

stock vs stock..

So because the Camaro is more expensive than a Mustang GT by a few thousand, you bump it up and compare it to a $10,000 more upgraded version of the Mustang GT??? Apples to apples and the Camaro SS competes against the Ford Mustang GT and the Challenger RT in price and power..Throw in the Missan 350z and the Genesis coupe and you have some more closely priced sports cars in the mix..It is like comparing a GT500 to a V10 Dodge Viper on the drag strip..

Dodge Viper fourth generation 2008 base model..

* 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h): 3.5 sec [11]
* 0–100 mph (0–160 km/h): 7.6 sec [11]
* quarter mile: 11.6 sec @ 126 mph (203 km/h) [11]
* top speed: 220 mph (350 km/h)
* slalom: 74.2 mph (119 km/h)+
* skidpad average acceleration: 1.06 g (10.4 m/sē)
* 100–0 mph (160–0 km/h): 270 ft (82 m)

The stock GT500 gets creamed doesn't it?

Even the GT500KR gets beat.. * 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h): 3.9-4.3
* 1/4 mile: 11.92s @ 120 mph (11.58 @ 122 mph (196 km/h) on drag radials)

So you need to get it modded and add this super snake package to get closer and even then it still can't beat the stock viper..
Shelby GT500 "Super Snake"

Starting in 2008, previous 2007 Shelby GT500 Mustangs could be sent to Carroll Shelby's Special Performance Plant in Las Vegas to be rebuilt into a Super Snake, which resembles the 1968 GT500KR, for an additional cost of $27,995. The Super Snake will offer a 605 hp 5.4LEaton roots type supercharged version with warranty. A Kenne Bell twin-screw supercharged version with "over 725 hp" will also be available, without warranty and a 0-60 time of under 4 seconds.[1][2] The Super Snake is inspired by the 1967 GT500 Super Snake, a car made by Carroll Shelby for Goodyear Tires.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

All in all it is fair to compare cars that cost roughly the same price. The SS and GT are very close in price so it is fair to compare them.. Once you get to $10,000 or more in price, it simply isn't a fair comparison.

This argument can run in circles forever. You can also throw an aftermarket SC on a GT500 and so on and so on.
