Consider for just a moment how many 1st gen big block Camaros wound up in the junkyard because some idiot thought they could handle the power.

I have no doubt that there are plenty of people who know how to handle it, but there are still plenty who only think they can.

I know I can but I still leave the nannies on except at the track.

For those that only think they know how to handle that power, don't forget to include the fact that you turned the nannies off when you post the thread about how your car got totaled.

...but if you think the car 'runs like crap' with it on - I'm thinking that you're breaking the rear tires loose with regularity - or there's something wrong with your traction control system.

I'm sure you saw the 'accident' at the Press event at V.I.R. -- You may have respect for the car - but there's a reason why they call it an 'accident' -- and for the life of me I don't understand why anyone would turn the traction control off on public roads. In the past two weeks I can think of three other accidents (this is the fourth) ON THIS SITE -- that occurred in part because the traction control was switched off.

Tidbit: Those of us assigned ZL1 Captured Test Fleet vehicles have been told "don't even THINK about it"

(I shall now turn to page vii in our ZL1 handout that we were given and had to sign that we'd read it -- and we can read in unison:

"..the ZL1 is a very powerful vehicle. Traction Control and Stability Control MUST be active at all times. Failure to comply with this directive will result in revoked driving privileges and up to and including Termination....") (underline put there by GM -- not me...)

Wellalrightythen!

We received similar instructions with other CTF Camaros and Corvettes --- now - I think that perhaps the people who made this proclamation are quite familiar with Camaro - and they're making this rule for a reason.

I guess what I'd say to you is this:

1. It's your car - you are free to do as you see fit.

2. If you DO wreck your Camaro - it's another in the junk yard - and insurance rates will continue to climb. Don't believe me? Go look at the sales rates of Muscle cars from 1966 to 1969 - and watch as they drop off a cliff in late 1969 and 1970--that happened for a reason: Most accidents happened at high rates of speed and were quite --how shall we put this? "spectacular?" -- those of us who were around will tell you that some insurance costs were very nearly equal to the base price of the car PER YEAR by 1970! Do we really want to go thru that again?

3. I do hope that you and your loved ones and innocent ones are not injured if you do, indeed have an accident.....but if you hit me and I find out that you disabled your traction control - I'm not going to be a bit happy - and if I'm injured, I might consider coming after you legally.

4. Please-- I'm begging you: don't talk about shutting it off on this or any other site - it only encourages others - and that's not a good thing.......

Again - I'm not wanting to belittle you - but I've seen too many people killed in accidents where Stability control or seatbelts may have saved lives had people just used them.
This was the result of several (and I mean north of a couple) of wadded CTF Z06s several years ago. Word was that each of the cases was a result of turning off the "nannies" by people that thought they could actually drive...................and couldn't manage to control the car.

I always love these discussions. What no one is willing to admit is that under normal driving you can very often be surprised by something stupid that happens on the road. Could be another car, somebody walking out in front of you, a deer, could go on and on.

When you are controlling your "fun", having the nannies off can be good time. But for most of us (and seriously unless you are making a living driving a car that is almost all of us here) your car is with few exceptions faster than you will ever be.

lol, yea, people used to use the same arguments about not wearing seatbelts 15 yrs ago. after all, they were such good drivers they'd be able to avoid any accidents. just can't be restricted like that man...................what if I have to jump out of my vehicle all of a sudden? hey, you never know. could always go off a bridge into water too. damn gob'erment babysitting me in my car

LOL at elitist pigs like yourself that represent the gen5 camaro community. You must have so much experience and expertise on our cars that you're telling others how to drive them by what functions they not should, but must be using.

Seriously, GM will say "never turn them off" to cover their ass cause they know 90ish% of people that buy these cars can't handle a true "performance" car.

If you think a 3900lbs car with 370rwhp absolutely NEEDS TC on at all times, that's fine. Just keep in mind not everyone who buys a car like this is ignorant of it's power. "With great horsepower comes great responsibility" Get it in your skull that some people understand this and can handle the car just fine.

I think I could count on one hand the number of times I've turned them off... mostly to see what it's like without them.

Unbelievable. My first car was a 69 Camaro with a 6 cylinder, power glide trans and a peg leg rear end. One year older at the rip old age of 16 I had a 327, 4 speed Muncie and a posi 12 bolt with 4:11 gears running 13.0 in the 1/4 in that same Camaro. One year later 302DZ motor on NOS running in the mid 9 in the 1/4. I did not have "nannies then" but that was 30 years ago and that 1969 Camaro cost about 3,000.00. Turn them off if you want, leave them on if you want. That's a pretty big gamble with a $40,000.00 plus machine. And I just like to gamble.....sometimes

At my age pretty much everything is faster than me.

And it doesn't bother me at all.
