Hell, in a serious enough race car I probably would have a dedicated starter switch of some sort myself with nothing left hanging from the steering column.

It's the thought that proximity locks and pushbutton start should be the car's standard production line fitment - as suggested at least a couple of times in this thread - that's just . . . wrong. And that's what prompted post #63.

And why is it wrong for technology to move forward get out of the dark ages and embrace technology.

Why would I want to have to check all my pockets looking for a key if I don't have to?

Have you ever tried a magic Key car?
they don't "auto start" they unlock when a person with the magic key is within range or touches the door handle.
and the start is a button.

If you are so against technology why are you even driving? you know there was a perfectly good low tech solution called a HORSE and BUGGY. might want to check that out.

keys are archaic technology there are far better ways to do it.

oh nm I see Norm is a Rustang guy that explains it all.

Two words - needless complexity

Three more - not user serviceable

Make things as simple as possible, but no simpler (Albert Einstein).

Like I said in a previous reply, if that's what you want, fine for you. Just don't suggest that there should be no other way for everybody else.

I never said that I was against all technology. It has certainly proved its value as far as the ECU is concerned. But it is not truly necessary for all else in the car to involve electronics or to utilize a level of technology any higher than necessary to get the job done.

I drive because I enjoy driving, even when it's only to get me from 'here' to 'there'. As in physically working the controls to drive down the road, or around the cones at autocross, or once in a while pushing it a bit harder out on a road course. Aside from providing heat to the interior in winter, cool air in the summer, and a little background music, there isn't much else I need or even want out of a car. I could daily-drive the new Z/28 without ever missing any of the stuff that can't be had in it.

Exactly what is your grudge against solutions that have worked quite well for several decades? You do yourself a disservice if you truly think that every new way of doing things must by definition be better than whatever preceded it.

What I am is a car guy. Always have been. Dig a little deeper than just my sig and avatar pic, and while you're digging maybe it'll cross your mind why the car I bought new in 2008 was a Mustang rather than a Camaro.

It really doesn't bother me either way, I just know I hate the flip out key, it'll randomly flip out in my pocket, and mine is broke, it won't close all the way anymore. As long as a key functions as a key, really doesn't matter to me.

It is not Photoshopped. I purchased the kit from Advanced Keys. You have to use a bypass device in conjunction with the Advanced Keys unit. The one I used is by Fortin.

The way the system works after it is installed is, you keep the flat card (see photo) Attachment 493368 in your pocket and as you walk within 2-3 meters of the 2 antenna (mine are placed on front and rear windows), the car unlocks. You get in and hold down brake and clutch (just brake in the auto I think) and tap button.

I also bought the auto close window module so if the windows are down and sunroof is open, I get out, walk away and they roll up and close on their own once the doors lock. Press and hold the unlock button on the card and it opens the trunk.

I did not do the install but so far (It was installed in late July 2012) it works flawlessly. There is a valet mode for when you get service or car wash, etc. Put it in valet mode and the doors will not lock until you hit the buttons on the card.

I hope there are no rules about putting links in posts. If so I apologize in advance but here is the link to Advance Keys. Oh yea before I forget I believe the kit was appx $450 plus about $60 for the bypass (shop around on this one as the price varies big time). The guy charged me $250 for the install but it also did my foot well lights and installed a pistol grip shift handle..(let me know if you guys want pics of the shift handle)

I was just kidding with ya! I have seen this system before and have heard good things. Would you post a video of it working with the Camaro? I would LOVE to know more. I'd also like to see the auto windows.

Thanks!

Whenever I want to feel old I come to this site. Back in the day the heated discussions were about things like carb v. FI, 455 SD v 428 CJ, roller lifters, etc. Now they are about things like keys, HUD, and leather.
