Well let me ask you this, why do you want to race so bad?

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my next
Track fix.

I would enjoy seeing what I can do compaired to other stock times from our cars. I know that I wouldnt even be close, but I would still enjoy it just feeling the thrill of it legally.

So you want to race. Good, honest answer.

If your dad is on board, and used to race, any chance he is on "your side"? I hate to use that term but I can't think of another. I also hate to see this as a one side vs. another.

Have you asked her what her trepidation is against drag racing?

I talked to her earlier and all she said was that she didnt want me to tear up the car. She wouldnt say more cause she was getring ready to go somewhere. Then I went my dad, I said "If you and mom say anything about me running at streetfights, what will you tell her? Are you okay with me going to race" he said "Yea, more than likely I will keep trying to but im not sure if she will just change her mind because I say something like that."

Listen, I see a lot of people being foolish on this thread and picking on the kid for being in a better position then most. First I want to tell you, listen to your parents because they are the world to you not that car. Since you have an honest need to be a part of the sport I would recommend attending some Jr Drag Race classes at your local track and get to know the safety and guidelines to racing. A lot of experienced drag racers love to see youth get into the sport. Ask questions a lot and make friends with the staff there. I'm sure they want to see more people into their hobby. After attending the classes I would tell your parents about what you learned and have them attend one of the events. It would be a great way to go about this since your parents are looking down on racing of any sort.

Jeez dude relax, these older guys have been through numerous things you havent, some of them have kids your age also. They often know what they are talking about through experience, and they are telling you these things for a reason. Im 18 and I value peoples wisdom about things that I would have no way to gain at my age. Do what you will, but its worth a shot to hear these older guys out.

You remind me of a student, every time I told him something he would say, "I know."

So I shut up.

Didn't take long before he mouse-trapped himself... he says, "What do I do now?"

I told him, "You know."

He was PISSED...

I went to lunch.

I had a turkey club and a cup of coffee.

It was good.

OK, so basically that was your first attempt and then you came here. That was both a good and bad idea as you have seen.

I am all for youngbloods like yourself learning the sport of racing, either drag or road course, and I applaud you for doing it the right way and going to the track as opposed to the street. Next time you ask a question on here though I am sure you will think long and hard on how you word it, live and learn, lol.

Now, here is my advice. Check to see if your local tracks have a test and tune night/day. If they do go with your dad and make it an outing together. Make him your co conspirator so to speak but moreover ask him to take you so he can teach you how to do it right. Make him your coach.

If that isn't going to work then it is going to cost you some coin. By this I mean go to school. One of the following should do the trick but they aren't cheap but they are professional.
http://frankhawley.com/
http://www.charlotteracingschools.co...rag-racing.php

Once you have done either of these things you can then go to the track on your own, MOM, because you have been educated by (insert whichever path you ended up following). Use this for your presentation below.

Do not harp on this to your Mom but do show here how serious you are about it. Also make sure you show here that you want to do this the legal way, going to the track not on the streets. Get your facts and your Dad on board and then sit down with your Mom and talk to her about it. This means doing your homework, talking to dad first and having all your ducks in a row beforehand. Think of it as a presentation for school, a powerpoint thingy wouldn't be bad either, lol. But sit your parents down together with all your facts and talk about it.

HOWEVER, if she stills says no you have to RESPECT her decision and move on. Wait until you are older and own your own car and then go to the track. Sorry, but Mom is Mom and she does have the last say. Right?

So, recap..... talk to dad and see if he will take you and coach you. If not look into the schools. Gather all relevant information about path/safety/coaching then find time to sit down with your parents and ask them if you can do this. Then in the future you can go to the track on your own because you have demonstrated the competency to handle it.

Give that a shot.

Ah, the long game. I have a hard time keeping the smirk off my face in those situations.

Be patient youngblood, it will be there next year too and for the rest of your life. The lessons you learn now will stay with you so, SERIOUSLY, stop, look, and listen from your elders. This is a serious sport that can seriously kill you but is also seriously a lot of fun.

If you learn things the right way now you can go far. Learn them wrong and they are hard, bad habits to break later on in life.

And, you're welcome.

BTW, when you are done playing with that silly drag racing stuff look into the Road Course/HPDE stuff if you really want to have some fun. (Puts on Flame suit against all the drag racers ) Lol.
