I priced out 2SS and my insurance only went up $12 a month... though with 5 star safety rating my insurance went down when I bought my Camaro in 2012 and had a crossover 2011 suv... I was shocked! |

Car insurance isn't based on what is cool, horse power or gas milage.
It is based on what the average person that drives that car does with it and how much damage it can cause. That is why a mitsu evo (ultra homo) will cost you more than 5x a crotch rocket will. |

So that could be an issue is you're using the wrong gear. Not saying it is the issue for you but something to think about. I just filled up last week after putting 241.1 miles on the car. Used 11.1 gallons and avg. 21.7mpg's. That was a mix of a highway trip I did last weekend and then driving to work and running around town. Also while running the AC full blast on the days I drove to work. I like driving home in peace and quiet and being cool on my way home after a long day in the sun.

I learned this trick when I had both of my Dodge Ram's with Cummins in them. Diesel's aren't known for doing well at higher rpm's in terms of fuel consumption. So I'd keep the rpm's lower and let the low end torque of the truck move the truck. I once went to Denver with the cruise control set at 67mph in a 75mph speed zone. Yeah I was getting passed by people left and right. But I ran to Denver and back(did very little driving in Denver) and as soon as I got back in town, fueled up and got my best ever MPG's I'd ever seen in a diesel truck. I came in right at 26.1mpg's highway with a Cummins. I also had it programmed with a Hypertech set on Stage 2, with a full turbo back exhaust. However, I could routinely get between 23-25mpg's on highway with my truck. Funny part was if I kept my foot out of it in the city, I'd easily get 18-19mpg's in city. Not bad for a 6000lb truck that has the aerodynamics of a brick. Speed is relative to all MPG's. To break it down even further. My 2003 GSX-R1000 averages in the city 42-45mpg when I ride it normally to and from work. Doing a mountain ride I've gotten as high as 55mpg. Though, most mountain riding gets me in the high 40's and low 50's. No as soon as I hit the race track, I drop down to around 24-26mpg's around a 2.25 mile road course, that has a very long front straight, 10 corners with some elevation changing. With me hitting redline in four gears down the front straight, and maintaining high rpm through some corners as well.

But
The tank prior to this (over 80) I spent going only 70 mph but only got 19 mpg. Both in 6th gear.

Man I'm at a loss. Could be a fuel issue or something else

I'm at a loss as to how people get higher. I've tried driving very slowly or regular or fast. Only seems to make a few mpg difference.

I see you're in Cali, do you get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic?? With lots of idle time?

My work schedule has me on the freeway when there's little to no traffic. 3:30AM-2:30PM

Could be anything at this point man. I'd guess it might boil down to fuel or a fueling issue. Your car shouldn't be getting that low of fuel mileage. But you said your other Camaro did the same thing?? Which for me narrows it down to the fuel you use or the issue could be something you yourself do... Driving habits can contribute to fuel consumption good or bad.
