Due to several inquiries, Bo will start doing shaft mods to the Vmaxx TB's. You can still go through Jason for those. I don't think he has one on hand so it's probably going to be ship it in, mod it, ship it back, unless someone wants to donate one.

Saw this today and in Super Chevy and thought it was pretty cool.

Wonder why the throttle blade (shaft) bolts are left so long?

They are the same length as OEM, just grade 8. Typically he grinds them down even.

10-4. I went out last night and got bolts to use for when I do the shaft mod this week to my v-max. There were a lot of length variety's in this bolt size at the hardware store near my location. Reason why I asked, but you can easily grind them to length afterwards too.

Not sure what you are thinking of plugging holes with nuts and bolts as the throttle body shaft is threaded. But you will need to source yourself a 5/8" expansion plug to cap the end of the throttle body when you put the shaft back in it and it all together. You will destroy the old plug when trying to get it out to get the shaft out. No other way around that.

He's cutting the front half the shaft off, then reattaching the blade with higher strength grade 8 bolts, for the added strength. The added flow comes from the lack of half the shaft. Essentially, less of a restriction. Don't know what you're trying to say with nuts and bolts. There are no nuts on the TB as the back half of the shaft is threaded. The grade 8 bolts are the exact same length of the oem screws, but have a bigger head. With that pic you can see just how much shaft is taken out as the bolt would be flush with both sides of the shaft in place.

He doesn't grind the threaded end of the screws because a mechanically fastened connection is stronger with 1-2 exposed threads as opposed to flush. Standard engineering practice. I deal with fastener strength all the time at work.
Time to get to testing! Last edited by 2012LS3VERT; 06-10-2014 at 11:19 PM. |
