I appreciate the offer, but its a bit late now.

I ordered an ATI from JDP (Tyler). I would have thought to have had a replacment from TSP last week -- really pretty quickly after the incident was detail to TSP. Considering that Ryan from GPI detailed the situation, I would have thought I'd had a replacment within 48 hours.

Not sure why there were crickets until today...

I have not held a failed pulley in my hands in years so it's real important I get that thing here so it can be studied.

I'm sorry it let you down driving, this tx heat is rough right now & being broke down in the middle of it really sucks. :(

Sorry Don we just moved the entire shop across TX so it's been completely crazy! We didn't get phones running until lunch yesterday.

Please let me get the pulley back and get you credit back on it.

Chevrolade I wouldn't check pullies everyday because of this thread. We sell over 500 pullies from all kinds of companies every year.

I talked with the guys at the shop and the only two failures we have on record is from Harold gwatney chevrolet. I will contact them as well to try to get more info from them to see if it compares to this failure.

Do you guys know if this pulley was installed with a pulley installer, longer bolt, or hammered on until the stock bolt grabs?

**** update the guys said this was one of the two pullies installed at Harold gwatney chevrolet so I'm on the right page now!! I will get them a full credit right now so they can refund you. I'll also get both pullies from them so we can study the pullies at the factory.

Like I said I'm sorry for the problems, please let me try to make it up to you if you ever need anything in the future!

All of the manufacturers test the bonding by doing a load force test randomly during production.

The guys at Harold gwatney chevrolet are good people, I'll get them refunded and I know for 1000% they'll forward that refund on to you.

GPI (Ryan) installed it. I used the same tools they did ( to take the TSP off, and the LS3 installer -- long bolt with the sleve to slowing press it in -- got it here:
http://www.coloradospeed.com/hawk-ls...3-p-10976.html
).

I initially thought this was an SLP, but GPI informed me it was not. Not sure why it failed as I don't beat the car. The Vulanized Rubber sure doesn't look like it cured correctly to the part from what I see.

I will say, I noticed a bit of a wobble -- not much mind you -- about 2 days before it let loose. It was very suttle.

Appreciate the update and the offer.

I'm sure you have many customers who've had no problem. I know parts fail (I was a tech for 15 years as well as sprint/midget mechanic).

I can say that I created a video that I sent Ryan on Monday of last week showing how the pulley was bad. I also sent a pic of the rubber separated.

I get how your move may have interrupted communication, my problem was no-one got back to us until today. It is very difficult to just 'wait' to get an answer when you've had my experience with this pulley. I’m fully prepared to take on these situations, just needed a litter faster response. I was ready to install everything last Wednesday. When I didn’t hear back by Wednesday afternoon of last week, I had to go and buy a new pulley so I could get going. JDP helped me out. For that I am thankful.

I understand you folks are just north of Round Rock. IF I had heard back from you, I could have been there in about 2.5 hours and picked up a replacement. I live off 35 in DFW so that would have been worth it for me. 0

Bottom-line, I didn’t have many options left. Needless to say I am displeased. I appreciate the offer to make it up to me. Right now, I’m working with JDP to get my BMR and FE4 suspension upgrades. I’ve had to place on hold my cam and heads as this little adventure was an unexpected expense that ate into that part of my funds. While that is not your issue, it does put a damper on what I had planned and the work I had schedule with GPI.

While I was inconvenienced, my larger concern is for those who’ve also installed this pulley. I’m sure you’ll be able to determine what caused this one to fail. I’ve seen these before and it was due to faulty adhesion to the metal (not hot enough to adhere). Looks like the same here on mine.

Thanks!
-Don

It was a bad deal for sure. I was out of town for tuning training at Holley and I'm typically quicker on the gun, but I had class from 8-5:30 on most days.

I just received and replied to an Email from Derek.

Jason we use the OE pulley installer kit on everything.

The first failed pulley was on a vvt cam swap car we did that turns 6800-7000 rpms.
Don's is on a bolt on car that we shift around 6000 stock cam and dod stuff for now.

Don once again I apologize for the inconvenience and I will def forward the refund to you sir. And on top of that, Im still going to do your cam swap at a discount for all the troubles sir.

Yes, I can truly apprecaite everyone involved wanting to make it right -- that's what we should expect, but its just awesome to see this. I feel I've been patient and not bad mouthing everyone involved -- s*** happens and I fully understand that when it comes to going 'off factory' mods. I'm lucky how and where it happened. Could have been much worse.

I would expect everyone involved gathered something from this and whomever is the next person (and there will be one -- law of averages), we'll benefit from what I experienced and won't have the same road blocks.

So off I go to torque that bad boy now with the old bolt -- that's going to be fun...

It's easier for tall people haha. Even 240 doesn't seem hard when you can lean over the driver's side all the way over to the passenger side inner fender to grab that cheater. Best part of that crank bolt is you get to do it twice .

Yep I had no problems as I have the weight factor on my side. Was easy to get 'er tight. So it's on now all bolted up. Waiting for the heat to drop a bit then finish it up. I like the ATI from a future maintenance point of view. Don't have to pull the hub except for cam etc. And then I'll get the split cover

Question: Is the whole purpose of the under-drive pulley to reduce engine power loss to run the "accessories" (alternator, A/C, etc.)?

In a word -- yes less drag on the engine and not taking HP to run the accessories...
