Mustang fans: Gobble up an S197 soon....they look better and are 1/4 monsters when modded. Forget the Fusion stang, it will be short lived.

Randy Pobst didn't complain about the GT's tires during his drive.
(Mustang GT PP) "Very firm on the street but on the track it feels soft, cushy, rolly. Too soft really. Could use more shock for track work. Lot softer than the 1LE...mostly shocks, little bit springs"

And Ford will probably continue to see taillights, for at least as long as they insist on working with smaller tires, narrower wheels, and shock damping that still isn't quite 'there' for track use.

255/40's on 9" wide front wheels just isn't in the same league with what the 1LE has been wearing - or with what can be more or less fitted to the S197 and still be streetable. It shouldn't have been rocket science . . .

There is also recent disappointment that the S550 doesn't enjoy a bigger weight advantage, closer to what it has been over the last few years. If it had come in a couple hundred lbs lighter, a good set of tires in only 275/35 on 10" or 10.5" wide wheels would have at least made for closer competition.

Was this Mustang wearing the 6 Pot front brake upgrade? I would guess so.

The reasons one buys a car of this caliber all fall to the 1LE.

I guess the Camaro being called a "pig" days are over. I sure hope that GM releases the 1LE the first year of the 6Gen.

I do find it very hilarious when people bring up the tire situation. You know what else a wider, heavier tire is going to do? Slow down straight line acceleration, fuel economy and ride quality to a certain extent AND cost more. Does anyone ever see someone complaining how the Camaro SS/1LE would be faster in a straight line, get slightly better MPG and ride a little better if only it had tires that weren't as wide? Nope.

You hit the nail on the head, the auto manufacturer can spec whatever tire they want, they know the advantages and drawbacks with various tire configurations. It is their call about what they want to do and how they want to spec it.
And on a car like the GT Performance Pack they have to think about the percentage of people that track the car. As equipping it with better tires might be good for magazine tests and the 10% that track it but what about the other 90%? You know the folks that just wanted a little extra performance that don't want to lay down $350 per tire every 5k miles. Hell look how many people bitch about the cost of tires on here already.

I'm interested to see what they do there as well. They probably won't as they'll want to see what the real problems are with the car on a track from many sources before doing a whole package on it.

Could be wrong though.

I am legitimately stunned the 1LE was a better car.

I'm a Camaro fan, but I expected the gen6 Mustang w/ its performance pack to come packing more heat.

Much surprise and much excitement! WHOOP!
